Hermann Vorster
Hermann Vorster is an Australian politician who has been a member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland since 2024, representing the district of Burleigh. Prior to entering the state parliament, he served as a prominent city councillor on the Gold Coast City Council between 2016 and 2024. Early life Vorster was born in South Africa and raised in New Zealand, before moving to the Gold Coast at 15 years of age where he completed his secondary schooling at Somerset College. Following graduation, he enrolled at Bond University and completed his degree before pursuing a career in politics. Political career Prior to his election to public office, Vorster had worked as the press secretary to Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate. He had also served as the president of the Young LNP. Legislative Assembly Of Queensland
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). The 2024 Gold Coast City Council election was held on 16 March 2024 to elect a mayor and 14 councillors to the City of Gold Coast. The election was held as part of the statewide local elections in Queensland, Australia. Incumbent mayor Tom Tate was re-elected to serve a record fourth term in office. Hoon
A hoon () is an Australian and New Zealand term describing a person who deliberately drives a vehicle in a reckless or dangerous manner, generally in order to provoke a reaction from onlookers. Hoon activities (or hooning) can include speeding, burnouts, doughnuts, or screeching tyres. Those commonly identified as being involved in hooning are young and predominantly male drivers in the age range of 17 to 25 years. Chevron Island
Chevron Island is an urban island that lies in the Nerang River and is a neighbourhood within the suburb of Surfers Paradise onn the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. History Chevron Island is a natural island previously known as Goat Island. Goat Island hosted a cattle farm. The name Goat Island originated from when the original farm had a large goat population. Although it was a cattle farm, the goats helped keep the tougher vegetation from taking over. The goats were moved on after the sale of the farm and no records show what happened to them afterwards. The Gold Coast has many man-made islands created from land reclamation; however Chevron Island already existed. The shape and height of the island were added to with sand fill and also by detaching the island from where HOTA now exists in the 1950s.
