Hermann Salomon
Hermann Salomon (13 April 1938 – 11 June 2020) was a German javelin thrower. He competed in the 1960 Summer Olympics, in the 1964 Summer Olympics, and in the 1968 Summer Olympics. Born in the Free City of Danzig, Salomon first competed for the German team of Hamburger SV, before moving to USC Mainz when he was 23 years old in 1961. Salomon's first international success was in Turin at the 1959 Summer Universiade, where he won a gold medal in the javelin and then a silver medal in the pentathlon, he followed this up four year later in Porto Alegre, Brazil at the 1963 Summer Universiade with a silver medal in the javelin. 1960 saw Salomon's first Olympic appearance at Rome, in the javelin throw, where he qualified in ninth place for the final and in the final he finished in 12th place, four years later at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo he missed out on qualifying by 0.4 metres, but he made up for it in Mexico City at the 1968 Summer Olympics where again he managed to rea ... Free City Of Danzig
The Free City of Danzig (; ) was a city-state under the protection and oversight of the League of Nations between 1920 and 1939, consisting of the Baltic Sea port of Danzig (now Gdańsk, Poland) and nearly 200 other small localities in the surrounding areas. The polity was created on 15 November 1920 in accordance with the terms of Article 100 (Section XI of Part III) of the 1919 Treaty of Versailles after the end of World War I. Rudolf Harbig Memorial Award
The Rudolf Harbig Memorial Award () is an annual sports award in recognition of German competitors in the sport of athletics who, in performance and attitude, have been role models for young people. The award was created in 1950, named after German middle-distance runner Rudolf Harbig, who died age 30 fighting for the Wehrmacht in World War II. The award was suggested by the ''Clubs der Alten Meister'' (Old Masters Club), a union of former athletes and made official by Karl Ritter von Halt, the former leader of the National Socialist League of the Reich for Physical Exercise. The FISU World University Games, formerly the Universiade, is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
