Herga
Herga is a small village in the Udupi district of Karnataka, India. Geography The village has mainly paddy fields. It is approximately 3 kilometres from Parkala and 8 kilometers from Manipal. Herga Temple Herga has a Durga, Durgaparameshwari Temple on a small hilltop. During February of each year, procession (jaatre or uthsava) of the deity is carried out and is celebrated as a grand event. The temple was renovated in 1983. A ''Dhwajasthamba'' (flag-post) made of stone was constructed in 1993. The presiding Goddess of the temple is also known as ''Hergamma'' (protector of Herga) or ''Gramadevate'' (Grama - village, Devate - Goddess). Climate The climate is humid and warm between November and May and wet and cool during the monsoon months from June to October. Parkala is a suburb of Udupi city located east of Manipal in Udupi district of Karnataka, India. Udupi District
Udupi district (also Udipi () in Kannada or Odipu () in Tulu language) is an administrative subdivision in the Karnataka state of India, with the district headquarters in the city of Udupi. It is situated in the Canara old north Malabar coastal region. There are seven taluks, 233 villages and 21 towns in Udupi district. The three northern tehsils of Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala, were partitioned from Dakshina Kannada district (South Canara) to form Udupi district on 25 August 1997. Moodabidri was officially declared as new tehsil (taluk) in 2018. In February 2018, the district was split to into 3 more taluks, with Byndoor being carved out of Kundapur taluk and the Udupi taluk being split into three parts.
