Herbert Taylor (British Army Officer)
Lieutenant-General Sir Herbert Taylor (29 September 1775 – 20 March 1839) was the first Private Secretary to the Sovereign of the United Kingdom, serving George III, George IV, and William IV. Military career Taylor was the son of Rev. Edward Taylor of Bifrons, Patrixbourne, Kent and his wife Margaret Payler daughter of Thomas Turner Payler of Ileden, who died at Brussels in 1780. The diplomat Brook Taylor (diplomat), Sir Brook Taylor was his younger brother. He joined the 2nd Dragoon Guards as a Cornet (military rank), cornet in 1794. Later that year he was promoted to lieutenant and then the following year to captain. In 1795 he served as assistant secretary and aide de camp to the Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany, Duke of York, then commander-in-chief of the British Army. Herbert Taylor, CMG (11 May 1885 – 24 July 1970) was an Australian political party organiser, accountant, and company director. Life and political career Taylor was born in Malmsbury, Victoria, eldest of five children of Ralph Herbert William Taylor, a schoolteacher, and Alice Ann French. Both of Herbert Taylor's parents were born and raised in Victoria. From 1896 the family lived in Ormond, Victoria. Marriage Herbert Taylor and Doris Brock (died 1966) were married on 8 May 1919, at the Congregational Church, Brighton, Victoria; the couple had three sons. Career In 1902, at the age of 17, Taylor left Caulfield Grammar School and began work as a clerk at a chemical manufacturer. Herbert Reginald Taylor, II (born September 22, 1984) is a former American football offensive tackle. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Herbie Taylor
Herbert Wilfred Taylor (5 May 1889 – 8 February 1973) was a South African cricketer who played 42 Test matches for his country including 18 as captain of the side. Specifically a batsman, he was an expert on the matting pitches which were prevalent in South Africa at the time and scored six of his seven centuries at home. His batting was also noted for quick footwork and exceptional 'backplay'. He became the first South African to pass 2,500 Test runs and was selected one of Wisden's Cricketers of the Year in 1925. In domestic cricket, he played for Natal, Transvaal and Western Province. Taylor's greatest achievement is generally reckoned to be scoring 508 runs at an average of 50.80 in the 1913–14 Test series against England, in spite of English bowler Sydney Barnes taking a record 49 wickets in the series at 10.93. Herbert Hudson Taylor (3 April 1861 – 6 June 1950), British Protestant Christian missionary to China, author, speaker and eldest son of James Hudson Taylor, founder of the China Inland Mission and Maria Jane Dyer. He served there for over 50 years – the last three as one of the prisoners of the Japanese at the Weifang internment camp during World War II along with Eric Liddell and 1500 others. Herbert Taylor was four when his father founded the China Inland Mission. He had been born in London during his parents’ first furlough in England together. At the time of his birth, they were living with his aunt and uncle Amelia and Benjamin Broomhall at 63 Westbourne Grove, in Bayswater. In 1866 at the age of five Herbert and his parents, three siblings and sixteen other missionaries sailed to China aboard the Lammermuir (clipper) as part of the famous Lammermuir Party.
