Herbert Simon Award (Rajk College)
The Herbert Simon Award was established in 2004 by the Rajk László College for Advanced Studies. It is given annually to an outstanding scholar in the field of business and management whose works have contributed to the understanding or solving of practical business problems, and had a substantial influence over a long period of time on the studies and intellectual activity of the students at the college. This award is given by students, to whom they rated the highest. The students select the nominees and vote for the prize-winner in the Assembly of the college after a review and debate regarding the selected names. Rajk László College For Advanced Studies
Rajk College for Advanced Studies () is an educational institution offering advanced courses in the fields of economics, business and social sciences. The College is a self governing community of about 100 selected students living together. It was founded in 1970 by the students of the Corvinus University of Budapest (then Karl Marx University of Economic Sciences), with Attila Chikán as its first principal. It is the oldest existing institution of the kind in Hungary, giving a model to a number of later colleges in Hungary and abroad, such as the Bibó István College for Advanced Studies in Hungary or the Mikó Imre College for Advanced Studies in Romania. The college was named in 1974 after László Rajk, a leading Hungarian Communist, who was proclaimed an enemy of the regime and executed in a show trial in 1949. Marshall Van Alstyne
Marshall W. Van Alstyne (born March 28, 1962) is the Allen and Kelly Questrom Professor in IS at Boston University and a research associate at the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy. He co-developed the theory of two-sided markets with Geoffrey G Parker. His work focuses on the economics of information. This includes a sustained interest in information markets and in how information and technology affect productivity with an emphasis on “platforms” as an extension of the work on two-sided markets. Jeffrey Pfeffer (born July 23, 1946, St. Louis, Missouri) is an American business theorist and the Thomas D. Dee II Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
