Herbert R. Amey Jr.
Herbert Raudenbusch Amey Jr. (February 22, 1913 – November 20, 1943) was a United States Marine Corps lieutenant colonel and Silver Star Medal recipient who served in World War II. Early life and military career Amey was born in Ambler, Pennsylvania. He attended Ambler High School, where he was student council president during his senior year, as well as president of his sophomore and junior classes. Thereafter, Amey attended the Pennsylvania Military College, where he was the captain of the baseball team. Upon graduating, he became an officer in the United States Marine Corps and was initially assigned to the Marine Barracks at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Amey's first overseas assignment was with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines in Shanghai, China in 1937, followed by duty at the Marine Detachment at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. 1st Provisional Marine Brigade
The 1st Provisional Marine Brigade was a marine brigade of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) that existed periodically from 1912 to 1950. It was an ad hoc unit formed for specific operations and not considered a "permanent" USMC unit. The brigade saw five brief activations for service over a 40-year span. First created in 1912 for duty in Cuba following the Negro Rebellion, the brigade was not activated again until 1941 when it was hastily constructed from the 6th Marine Regiment to garrison Iceland after British forces occupied the country during World War II. The brigade saw service once more in the war during the Battle of Guam in the Pacific War, conducting an amphibious landing on that island's southern sector and subduing resistance from Japanese forces. The 6th Marine Regiment (also referred to as "6th Marines") is an infantry regiment of the United States Marine Corps based at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
