Henry Wills (born 1930) was a British journalist and photographer with a passion for local history and archaeology. He is best remembered for his writings on British anti-invasion preparations of the Second World War, his most often cited work being ''Pillboxes: A Study of U.K. Defences, 1940''. His interest in the topic was triggered when, in 1968, as a photographer for the '' Salisbury Times'', he was sent on a journalistic assignment to photograph the demolition of a pillbox. His inquiries led him to conclude that there were few official records of Britain's wartime defences. After some further investigation and some publicity on radio and in newspapers, he planned and organised the first nationwide survey of Britain's WW2 defences. Henry Wills (born c. 1842, date of death unknown) was a United States Army soldier and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration—the Medal of Honor—for his actions in the Indian Wars of the western United States. Formative years Born in Gracon, Virginia in about 1842, Wills resided in St. Louis, Missouri at the time of hs enlistment in the United States Army. American Civil War Wills served as a private in Company C of the 8th Cavalry Regiment. Henry Herbert Wills
Henry Herbert 'Harry' Wills (20 March 1856 – 11 May 1922) was a businessman and philanthropist from Bristol, and a member of the Wills tobacco family. He was the son of Henry Overton Wills III and Alice Hopkinson and was born in Clifton, Bristol. He was educated at Clifton College. He was a member of the board for the Imperial Tobacco Company. His name is particularly associated with Bristol University. He was responsible for meeting the funding needed to build Wills Hall, a hall of residence for Bristol University students. He also funded the building of the H. H. Wills Physics Laboratory situated in Royal Fort Gardens. With his brother Sir George Alfred Wills Bt, he was responsible for the building of the Wills Memorial Building, a landmark building of Bristol University, in memory of his father. Henry Overton Wills III (22 December 1828 – 4 September 1911) of Kelston Knoll, near Bath in Somerset, was a prominent and wealthy member of the Bristol tobacco manufacturing family of Wills which founded the firm of W. D. & H. O. Wills. As a philanthropist his best-known act was the funding of the University of Bristol, founded in 1909, of which he became the first Chancellor. Henry Overton Wills I (2 March 1761 – 1826) was a British merchant who founded the firm of W.D. & H.O. Wills in Bristol, England, which eventually became one of the largest tobacco companies in late 19th-century Britain, and later became the largest constituent part of Imperial Tobacco. The 1966 Guinness Book of Records named the Wills family, descended from him, as containing the largest number of millionaires in the British Isles, of which 14 left estates in excess of one million pounds since 1910, totalling 55 million, of which 27 million was paid in death duties.
