James Cummiskey
James H. Cummiskey (January 4, 1850 – February 5, 1925) was a merchant and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 3rd Queens in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1891 to 1911 as a Liberal. He was born in Fort Augustus, Prince Edward Island, the first son of Hubert (some texts say Hugh) Cummiskey and Ellen Mitchell. Cummiskey married Catherine Woods(b. 1856 - d. 1925)in St. Joachim Roman Catholic church, Vernon River, PEI in 1878 and they had 12 children. He operated a general store and also farmed. He was an unsuccessful candidate for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1890, but was then elected in an 1891 by-election held after Donald Ferguson ran for a federal seat. Cummiskey served as speaker for the assembly from 1898 to 1900. He was also a member of the province's Executive Council, serving as Minister of Public Works. Joseph Wise (October 14, 1834 – February 21, 1909) was a farmer and political figure in Prince Edward Island. He represented 2nd Queens in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1886 to 1890 and from 1893 to 1900 as a Liberal member. He was born in North Milton, Prince Edward Island, the son of Joseph Wise, an immigrant from England, and Grace Ryder. Wise married Jane Essery in 1866. After she died, he married Sophia Essery, widow of Albert McKinnon, in 1883. He served as Grand Master in the Orange Lodge and favoured free trade with the United States. Wise was defeated when he ran for re-election in 1890. During the sessions held in 1899, he voted with the Conservatives. Wise agreed to resign his seat if a by-election would be held for 2nd Queens before spring 1900. The by-election was not held, and consequently Wise withdrew his resignation. Donald Farquharson (politician)
Donald Farquharson (July 27, 1834 – June 26, 1903) was a Canadian politician who served as the eighth premier of Prince Edward Island. A native of Mermaid, Prince Edward Island, Mermaid, Farquharson had been a teacher and then a businessman involved in wholesale and shipping. He was elected to the legislature as a PEI Liberal Party, Liberal in 1876 and joined the government of Louis Henry Davies in 1878 until the Davies administration fell the next year. Farquharson sat in parliamentary opposition, opposition until the Liberals won the 1891 election. He became Premier in August 1898 but, in 1901, he was persuaded to run in a by-election to the federal House of Commons of Canada, House of Commons since PEI Liberals hoped that as a former Premier, he would be elevated to the Canadian cabinet guaranteeing the island's representation in government.
