Northumberland (Ontario Electoral District)
Northumberland was a federal and provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1968 and from 1987 to 2003, and in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1999 to 2007. This riding was first created in 1914 from Northumberland East and Northumberland West ridings. It initially consisted of the county of Northumberland, excluding the township of Monaghan South. In 1947, South Monaghan was added to the riding, so that it consisted of the county of Northumberland. It was abolished in 1966 when it was redistributed between Northumberland—Durham and Prince Edward—Hastings ridings. In 1976, Northumberland riding was recreated from parts of those two ridings. Percy Township, Ontario
Percy, Ontario was a former incorporated township and now a geographic township located in Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada. It is currently part of the Municipality of Trent Hills. The Township was named in 1798 for Lady Elizabeth Seymour, the wife of Hugh Percy, the first Duke of Northumberland. She later became the Baroness of Percy. Adjoining Seymour Township was given the Baroness' maiden name. A settlement grew, and in 1872, the Village of Hastings was separated from Percy and incorporated as a separate municipality. The community of Warkworth is located in Percy and was the administrative centre for the municipality. Percy was originally part of the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham, then Northumberland after the United Counties were restructured in 1974. Hillier, Ontario
Hillier is a community located in Prince Edward County, Ontario. Established in 1823, it was named after Major George Hillier (d. 1840), British Army officer and military secretary to Sir Peregrine Maitland from 1818 to 1828. It is located on the Loyalist Parkway or Highway 33 and is roughly 30 minutes from Belleville, Ontario. Hillier's population is roughly 100 people. The town hall, which is at the centre of the hamlet, was once a school and has been marked as a national historical site. Hillier is ward 7 of the 10 wards in Prince Edward County. The ward consists of several communities including Consecon, Melville, Rosehall and Hillier.
