Henry Albert Harper
Henry Albert Harper (December 9, 1873 – December 6, 1901) was a Canadian journalist and civil servant. He may be best known as a friend of future Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King. Harper is commemorated by a statue on Parliament Hill after his death while trying to save someone from drowning. Born to Henry and Margaret-Ann Harper in Cookstown, Ontario, Harper moved with his family to Barrie in 1880, where he graduated from Barrie Central Collegiate Institute eleven years later. He attended the University of Toronto, where he befriended Mackenzie King, who was a fellow student. After completing his Honours degree in political science in 1895, Harper became a journalist in London and Toronto, before eventually becoming the Ottawa correspondent for the ''Montreal Daily Herald''. Hank J. "Henry" Harper (February 21, 1929 – August 5, 1957) was a Canadian sprint canoeist who competed in the late 1940s. At the 1948 Summer Olympics The 1948 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XIV Olympiad and also known as London 1948) were an international multi-sport event held from 29 July to 14 August 1948 in London, England, United Kingdom. Following a twelve-year hiatus ca ... in London, he finished seventh in the K-2 1000 m and 14th in the K-2 10000 m event. After returning from the Olympics, Harper joined the police force in his hometown of Gananoque, Ontario, and later the Ontario Provincial Police. He died in 1957 after being hit by a motorist while directing traffic around an accident. He was 28 years old. Henry Harper (bishop)
Henry John Chitty Harper (28 December 1893) was an Anglican bishop in the second half of the 19th century. Life Harper was baptised on 9 January 1804, educated at The Queen's College, Oxford and ordained in 1832. He was Chaplain of Eton College until December 1840 then Vicar of St Mary's, Stratfield Mortimer. In 1856 he was appointed to the episcopate as Bishop of Christchurch. Harper and his family arrived on 23 December 1856 in Lyttelton on the ''Egmont''. At the 4th General Synod, 14 October 1868, he was elected and upon receiving in July 1869 notice of Selwyn's resignation, he became Primate of New Zealand; he resigned the Primacy on 5 September 1889 and his See on 31 March 1890, in ill-health. The Ven. Henry William Harper, MA (1833 – 20 January 1922) was an eminent New Zealand Anglican priest in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was the eldest son of Henry Harper, the Primate of New Zealand. He was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Oxford and ordained in 1858.
