Henry Champion (general)
General Henry Champion (March 16, 1751 – July 13, 1836) was born to Colonel Henry Champion and Deborah Brainard. He was a descendant of the Henry Champion who settled in Connecticut in 1647. He sailed to the colony from Norwich, Norwich, England. Biography Henry Champion III was born in Westchester, Connecticut. He was the eldest of 7 children born to Col. Champion. His brother General Epaphroditus Champion was born in 1756 and also became a staunch Federalist. On October 10, 1781, Henry married Abigail Tinker, daughter of Sylvanus and Abigail (Olmstead) Tinker. Colchester is a New England town, town in New London County, Connecticut, United States. The town is part of the Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region, Connecticut, Southeastern Connecticut Planning Region. The population was 15,555 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. In 2010 Colchester became the first town in Connecticut, and the 36th in the country, to be certified with the National Wildlife Federation as a Community Wildlife Habitat. 4th Connecticut Regiment
The 4th Connecticut Regiment was raised on April 27, 1775, at Hartford, Connecticut. The regiment saw action in the Invasion of Canada following its adoption into the Continental Army on June 14, 1775, during which it was led by Colonel Benjamin Hinman. After which the regiment was disbanded on December 20, 1775, and reformed on September 16, 1776, to fight in the Philadelphia campaign in the Battle of Brandywine, Battle of Germantown and the Battle of Monmouth. These battles saw the leadership of Colonel John Durkee. The regiment was merged along with the 3rd Connecticut Regiment into the 1st Connecticut Regiment on January 1, 1783, at West Point, New York. Henry Champion House
The Henry Champion House is a historic house on Westchester Road in Colchester, Connecticut. Built in 1790, it is a good local example of Federal period architecture, designed by William Sprat, a prominent early architect. It was built by Colonel Henry Champion, a veteran of the American Revolutionary War for his son, also named Henry. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Description and history The Henry Champion House is located on the southern fringe of the village of Westchester in southwestern Colchester, on the west side of Westchester Road at its junction with Pickerel Lake Road. It is a -story gambrel-roofed wood-frame structure, with a gambrel roof and clapboarded exterior. Two brick chimneys are symmetrically placed in the interior, rising behind the main roof ridge. Champion is a town in Jefferson County, New York, United States. The population was 4,494 at the 2010 census. The town is named after General Henry Champion, early owner. The town is on the eastern edge of the county and is east of Watertown. History Settlement began around 1798. Henry Champion purchased the lands and sent his surveyor Noadiah Hubbard to the land. Hubbard settled in the area where his homestead still exists today. The town was the birthplace of George E. Spencer (1836-1893), a Union general in the Civil War who later served two terms as a U.S. senator from Alabama. Champion was established in 1800 from part of the town of Mexico (now in Oswego County) before the county was created. The Connecticut Supreme Court, formerly known as the Connecticut Supreme Court of Errors, is the supreme court, highest court in the U.S. state of Connecticut. The 1st Connecticut Regiment was a unit of the Continental Army, and was involved in the American Revolutionary War.
