Henri Noël (11 September 1937 – 17 October 2020) was a French football player and coach. Career Born in Mollégès, Noël played as a defender for Nîmes B, Nîmes, SSMC Miramas and Avignon. He later became a coach, managing Nîmes B, Nîmes and Martigues Martigues ( in classical norm, ''Lou Martegue'' in Mistralian norm) is a commune northwest of Marseille. It is part of the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region on the eastern end of the Canal de Caronte. A .... He died of a heart attack on 17 October 2020, aged 83. In June 2021 a stadium in Nîmes was named after him. In the sport of association football, a defender is an outfield player whose primary role is to stop attacks during the game and prevent the opposition from scoring. Defenders fall into four main categories: centre-backs, full-backs, sweepers, and wing-backs. The centre-back and full-back positions are most common in modern formations. The sweeper and wing-back roles are more specialised, often limited to certain formations dependent on the manager's style of play and tactics.
