Henri Becquerel
Antoine Henri Becquerel ( ; ; 15 December 1852 – 25 August 1908) was a French nuclear physicist who shared the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physics with Marie and Pierre Curie for his discovery of radioactivity. Biography Family and education Becquerel was born in Paris, France, into a wealthy family which produced four generations of notable physicists, including Becquerel's grandfather ( Antoine César Becquerel), father ( Edmond Becquerel), and son ( Jean Becquerel). Henri started off his education by attending the Lycée Louis-le-Grand school, a prep school in Paris. He studied engineering at the École polytechnique and the École des ponts et chaussées. Career Becquerel's earliest works centered on the subject of his doctoral thesis: the plane polarization of light, with the phenomenon of phosphorescence and absorption of light by crystals. Paul Nadar
Paul Nadar (8 February 1856 – 1 September 1939) was a French photographer and the son of Nadar, who was also a photographer, and the grandson of Victor Tournachon, who was a printer and bookseller. Life Nadar was born on 8 February 1856 in Paris. He appointed by his father to be manager of the latter's studio in Paris 1874. The two men had a difficult relationship, being estranged for a period, but later collaborated on the world's first photo interview – Nadar senior conducting the interview while Paul took photographs — of Michel-Eugène Chevreul. As of 1 April 1895, his father turned over the Paris Nadar Studio to Paul. His father moved to Marseille, returning to Paris 3 January 1909. The older Nadar died on 20 March 1910, aged 89. The studio continued under the direction of Paul Nadar. Paul died on 1 September 1939 in Paris. Charles Friedel (; 12 March 1832 – 20 April 1899) was a French chemist and Mineralogy, mineralogist.
