Hennadii Shapovalov
Hennadii Mykolayovych Shapovalov (; born in 1978) is a Ukrainian Ground Forces brigadier general who is the Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces from 19 June 2025. He served as the commander of the Operational Command South from 16 April 2024 to 4 February 2025. Biography Hennadii Shapovalov was born in Kirovohrad Oblast in 1978. In 2000, he graduated from the Institute of Tank Troops of the Kharkiv State Polytechnic University. In 2012, he graduated from the Command and Staff Institute of the Use of Troops (Forces) of the National Defense University of Ukraine, and National University of Ostroh Academy majoring in "International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies" (both with honors), as well as the US Army War College. He went through all levels of military service, from the commander of a tank platoon to the commander of the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Yakiv Handziuk. Kirovohrad Oblast (), also known as Kirovohradshchyna (), is an administrative divisions of Ukraine, oblast (''province'') in central Ukraine. 59th Motorized Brigade (Ukraine)
The 59th Separate Assault Brigade () is a formation of the Unmanned Systems Forces formed in 2014 as part of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. The brigade was activated on 8 December 2014 in the city of Haisyn in Vinnytsia Oblast and took command of three volunteer territorial defense battalions. On 24 August 2015, Ukraine's Independence Day, the brigade received its flag and became fully operational. The brigade fought in the war in Donbas and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Ground Forces (SVZSU, ), also referred to as the Ukrainian army, is a land force, and one of the eight Military branch, branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
