St Llwydian's Church, Heneglwys
St Llwydian's Church is a Grade II listed church in Heneglwys, Anglesey, Wales. The building dates to 1845, though it was erected using material from an earlier church. The circular font is as old as the 12th century, and the Church in Wales notes that an "unusually high number of 12th century stones" used in the church's construction indicate that the original church stemmed from that period. William Glyn (bishop)
William Glyn (1504 – 21 May 1558), also known as William Glynn or William Glynne, was the Bishop of Bangor from 1555 until his death. He was born in Heneglwys, Anglesey and educated at Queens' College, Cambridge, later becoming a fellow of that college and of Trinity. He was elected President of Queens' College in 1553, Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge University in the following year, and Bishop of Bangor in 1555. He had been pragmatic towards the religious changes of the Reformation but probably remained most sympathetic to Catholicism. Bodffordd
Bodffordd () is a village and community in central Anglesey, Wales. As of the 2011 census, the community's population was 960. The community includes the hamlets of Trefor, Heneglwys and Bodwrog. Description and history Bodffordd is located just under from the county town of Llangefni, on the south western edge of the reservoir, Llyn Cefni. It is the nearest settlement to RAF Mona and as a community council, it includes the village of Trefor. According to the United Kingdom Census 2001, 77.9% of the population in the electoral division can speak the Welsh language; the 15-year-old age group has the highest number of speakers, in which 100% of the group can speak the Welsh language. The village was originally called Bodffordd Esgob, the Esgob indicating that it belonged to a bishop, the Bishop of Bangor in this case. Geoffrey Glyn
Geoffrey Glyn (died 1557), also known as Geoffrey Glynne, was a lawyer, principally known as the founder of Friars School, Bangor. He was born in Heneglwys, Anglesey, the brother or half-brother of William Glyn, later Bishop of Bangor. A graduate of Trinity Hall, Cambridge, he qualified as LL. B. in 1535 and LL. D. in 1539, and was an advocate at the Court of the Arches. He died at the ‘Arches in London’ (i.e. St Mary-le-Bow) in July 1557. Ynys Môn (; officially called Anglesey until 1983) is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Friars School, Bangor
Friars School is a school in Bangor, Gwynedd, and one of the oldest schools in Wales. History 1557 Establishment The school was founded by Geoffrey Glyn who had been brought up in Anglesey and had followed a career in law in London. A friary had been established in Bangor by the Dominican Order, or Black Friars, in the 13th century. At the dissolution of the monasteries, the friary was wound up in 1538. Geoffrey Glyn bought the site with a view to establishing a grammar school. In his will dated 8 July 1557, he left the property and endowments towards establishing the school. Geoffrey's will left the property to his brother William Glyn, Bishop of Bangor and Maurice Griffith, Bishop of Rochester, for them to execute his wishes.
