''Hempsteader'' is a live album by the country rock band the New Riders of the Purple Sage. It was recorded on June 25, 1976, at the Calderone Concert Hall in Hempstead, New York. It was released as a CD on April 19, 2024. It was released as a two-disc LP on October 4, 2024. ''Hempsteader'' features the New Riders' 1976 to 1977 lineup of John Dawson on guitar and vocals, David Nelson on guitar and vocals, Buddy Cage on pedal steel guitar, Stephen Love on bass and vocals, and Spencer Dryden on drums. New Riders of the Purple Sage is an American country rock band. The group emerged from the psychedelic rock scene in San Francisco in 1969 and its original lineup included several members of the Grateful Dead. The band is sometimes referred to as the New Riders or as NRPS. David Nelson (musician)
David Brian Nelson (born June 12, 1943) is an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He is perhaps best known as a co-founder and longtime member of the New Riders of the Purple Sage. Career Nelson started his musical career playing folk and bluegrass music, most notably as a member of The Wildwood Boys with Jerry Garcia. Shortly after his friend and former bandmate began to play rock music with The Warlocks (subsequently renamed the Grateful Dead), Nelson joined the similarly inclined New Delhi River Band. "Dead Flowers" is a song recorded by the Rolling Stones. Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, it appears on their 1971 album ''Sticky Fingers'' as the fourth track of side two. Otis Ray Redding Jr. (September 9, 1941 – December 10, 1967) was an American singer and songwriter. Allen Alvoid Jones Jr. (December 29, 1940 – May 5, 1987) was an American record producer and songwriter. Jones produced several albums for Albert King (including '' I'll Play the Blues for You'', '' The Blues Don't Change'' and '' I Wanna Get Funky''), and became the producer and manager for the Bar-Kays. Jack Anglin (May 13, 1916 – March 8, 1963) was an American country music singer best known as a member of the Anglin Brothers, and later Johnnie & Jack with Johnnie Wright. Younger Years Anglin was born on a farm in Franklin, Tennessee to John B. and Lue (née Tucker) Anglin. Jack was taught to play guitar by his father at a young age. By the time he was fourteen, Jack was singing and playing guitar on local radio stations even though he could not read music.
