David Hempleman-Adams
Sir David Kim Hempleman-Adams, (born 10 October 1956) is a British industrialist and adventurer. He is the first person to complete the Explorer's Grand Slam, by reaching the Geographic and Magnetic North and South Poles, as well as climbing the highest peaks in all seven continents, the first person to fly to the North Pole in a balloon, and the first person to make a balloon crossing of the Atlantic in an open basket. Early life David Hempleman was born in Moredon, Swindon on 10 October 1956. Following his parents' divorce, he moved with his mother to Stoney Littleton near Bath, and, when she remarried, took his stepfather's surname, Adams. He took part in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme at school, then pursued business studies at college in Manchester and at Bristol Polytechnic. Henry Valence Hempleman
Henry Valence "Val" Hempleman (25 March 1922 - 14 July 2006) was a researcher in the field of diving decompression.Originally published in the "Daily Telegraph" 30 Oct 2006 Early life Val Hempleman was the son of Harry Hempleman, a sea captain on the UK-New Zealand route. He was born in at Neasham, Darlington and moved to Hull as a boy. He won a scholarship to Hymers College, Hull, followed by St Catharine's College, Cambridge, where he studied inorganic chemistry and physics. This was interrupted by the Second World War, and he was called up to the Royal Navy and became a research assistant at the physiological laboratory ''Vernon II'' at HMS ''Dolphin'' in Gosport, where he was involved in experimental work assessing the effects of explosions on immersed personnel. After the war he continued his studies, and received an honours degree in chemistry. Alicia Hempleman-Adams
Alicia Nicole Hempleman-Adams (born 8 November 1989) holds the record for the youngest person to have reached the North Pole when she was flown there to meet her father at the age of eight. On 13 April 2005 she became the youngest person to traverse Baffin Island, aged 15. Hempleman-Adams took 10 days to walk and ski 200 miles across Baffin Island in north-east Canada. Hempleman-Adams and her three companions had to battle a wind chill factor of minus 30C, thin ice and open water along the trek. In February 2020 Hempleman-Adams set the World Female Altitude Record in an AX4 Class hot air balloon, at 4628m, and the British Female Duration Record at 1h 46min in the same flight. She attended Stonar School in Atworth, Wiltshire, and studied fashion at the University of Creative Arts (University of London) in Epsom. She works in logistics in the fashion industry.
