HEMA (; originally an acronym for ''Hollandsche Eenheidsprijzen Maatschappij Amsterdam'', "Hollandic Standard Prices Company Amsterdam"), is a Dutch variety store-chain. It began operations as a variety store. The chain is characterized by relatively low pricing of generic household goods, which are mostly made by and for the chain itself, often with an original design. The relative economic boom in the Netherlands in the period 1900–1930 benefited HEMA. During World War II, a number of Jewish employees (there was a relatively high ...

Historical European Martial Arts
Historical European martial arts (HEMA) are martial arts of European origin, particularly using arts formerly practised, but having since died out or evolved into very different forms. While there is limited surviving documentation of the martial arts of classical antiquity (such as Greek wrestling or gladiatorial combat), surviving dedicated technical treatises or martial arts manuals date to the Late Middle Ages and the early modern period. For this reason, the focus of HEMA is ''de facto'' on the period of the half-millennium of ca. 1300 to 1800, with a German school of fencing, German and an Italian school of swordsmanship, Italian school flowering in the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance (14th to 16th centuries), followed by Destreza, Spanish, Portuguese, French school of fencing, French, Art of Defence, English, and Historical fencing in Scotland, Scottish schools of fencing in the modern period (17th and 18th centuries). Arts of the 19th century such as classical fencing ...

(Hydroxyethyl)methacrylate
Hydroxyethylmethacrylate (also known as glycol methyacrylate) is the organic compound with the chemical formula . It is a colorless viscous liquid that readily polymerizes. Hydroxyethylmethacrylate is a monomer that is used to make various polymers. Synthesis Hydroxyethylmethacrylate was first synthesized around 1925. Common methods of synthesis are: * reaction of methacrylic acid with ethylene oxide; * esterification of methacrylic acid with a large excess of ethylene glycol. Both these methods give also some amount of ethylene dimethacrylate. During polymerization of hydroxyethylmethacrylate, it works as crosslinking agent. Properties Hydroxyethylmethacrylate is completely miscible with water and ethanol, but its polymer is practically insoluble in common solvents. Its viscosity is 0.0701 Pa⋅s at 20°C and 0.005 Pa⋅s at 30°C. During polymerization, it shrinks by approximately 6%. Applications Contact lenses In 1960, O. Wichterle and D.
