Helsinki Treaty
The Helsinki Treaty on cooperation between Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden set the framework for Nordic cooperation in the Nordic Council and the Nordic Council of Ministers. The Treaty was signed on 23 March 1962 and entered into force on 1 July 1962. It was amended in 1971, 1974, 1983, 1985, 1991, and 1995. The most recent amendments entered into force on 2 January 1996. Bjarni Benediktsson (born 1908)
Bjarni Benediktsson (; 30 April 1908 – 10 July 1970) was an Icelandic politician of the Independence Party who served as prime minister of Iceland from 1963 to 1970. He was born to (1877–1954), a leader in the independence movement of Iceland and a member of the Althingi from 1908 to 1931, and Guðrún Pétursdóttir frá Engey, a nationally renowned poet. Bjarni studied constitutional law and became a professor at the University of Iceland at age 24. He was elected to the city council in Reykjavík in 1934 as a member of the Independence Party and from 1940 to 1947 was mayor of the city. In 1947 he became Foreign Minister and served in various posts in cabinets until 1956. Martti Juhani Miettunen (17 April 1907 – 19 January 2002) was a Finnish politician who served twice as Finland's prime minister, from 1961 to 1962 and again from 1975 to 1977. Helge Sivertsen
Helge Sivertsen (12 June 1913 – 21 December 1986) was a Norwegian school administrator and elected official. He was best known as a champion discus thrower in the 1936 Summer Olympics. Biography He was born at Mandal in Vest-Agder, Norway. He was the son of Nils Sivertsen (1877-1955) and Martha Heddeland (1883-1962). His father was a college teacher, and the family moved to Inderøy Municipality in 1926. He attended folk school (''Orkdal Landslymnas'') and took artium in 1933. Sivertsen was a historian by education. He studied at the University of Oslo and became cand.philol. in 1940 with a history major. Herman Kling
Erik Herman Kling (12 July 1913 – 13 June 1985) was a Swedish politician and diplomat. He served as a member of the Riksdag for the Swedish Social Democratic Party and as minister for justice from 1959 to 1969. Kling served as ambassador in Copenhagen from 1969 to 1973 and in Lisbon from 1973 to 1979. Nordic Council
The Nordic Council is the official body for formal inter-parliamentary Nordic cooperation among the Nordic countries. Formed in 1952, it has 87 representatives from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden as well as from the autonomous areas of the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland. The representatives are members of parliament in their respective countries or areas and are elected by those parliaments.
