''Help! Help! Police!'' is a lost 1919 silent American comedy film directed by Edward Dillon. Plot As described in the film magazine ''Moving Picture World'', George Welston (Walsh), the son of a wealthy rubber manufacturer, is staying in Palm Beach as is another rubber man, Judson Pendleton (Hallam), and his daughter Eve (Mann). The two fathers are concerned about a $100,000 rubber shipment, and are competing for it. George has been arrest twice for speeding. One night he sees a man going by the window into Eve's room, so he climbs the roof and enters. The thief sees him coming and locks himself in a closet. The house detective sees George enter and nabs him, and while they are arguing the thief escapes. Eve and her father enter her room, and her father makes the detective let George go, although he still suspects him. The thief enters another room, gags a girl who was sleeping there, and takes her jewels. A cigarette starts the room on fire. George sees the smoke and rescues ... Edward Dillon (actor)
Edward Dillon ( or 1879 or 1882– July 11, 1933) was an American actor, film director, director and screenwriter of the silent film, silent era. Early and personal life Dillon was born in 1872, 1873, 1879 or 1882, in New York City. His brother John T. Dillon (actor), John T. Dillon was also an actor. He married Franc Dillon, Franc Newman in October 1914, and they divorced sometime before 1930. Newman kept her married name, Dillon. She attended his funeral in 1933, and afterward listed herself as a widow rather than divorced. Career Dillon's work on Broadway included acting in ''Prince Otto'' (1900), ''Francesca da Rimini'' (1901), ''The Taming of the Shrew'' (1905), and ''The Ranger'' (1907). He left the stage to begin acting in films in 1908, working under D. W. Griffith at Biograph Company, Biograph. Alice Mann (October 10, 1899 – March 2, 1986) was an American silent film actress. Biography Mann began her film career in late 1915 with the Lubin Manufacturing Company, appearing in six shorts before the production company ceased operations the following year. She then moved to Vitagraph Studios, appearing in ten shorts in 1916 and 1917, many with veteran vaudeville actor Jimmy Aubrey and nine of which were directed by nascent film comedian/director Larry Semon. Roscoe Arbuckle then cast her in three of his early Comique shorts (produced by Joseph M. Schenck) made with Buster Keaton. Her best-known film appearances are with Arbuckle and Keaton in ''Coney Island,'' ''His Wedding Night,'' and '' Oh Doctor!'' when she was only 17 years of age.
