Helmut Holzapfel (urban Planner)
Helmut Holzapfel (born 1950 in Göttingen, Germany) is a German scientist. He is Professor of Transportation Planning at University of Kassel, Germany. He studied Civil Engineering, Transportation Science and Urban Planning between 1968 and 1975 and completed his doctoral thesis, 'Trip Relationships in Urban Areas', in 1980. Academic career Helmut Holzapfel is a civil engineer, transportation scientist and urban planner, but he was working in very different fields from his original education as well: So he worked on human lifestyles, computing and reality, strollology (the science of strolling and perspective, invented by Lucius Burckhardt) and many other interdisciplinary topics as well. Strollology or Promenadology is the ''science of strolling'' () as a method in the field of aesthetics and cultural studies with the aim of becoming aware of the conditions of perception of the environment and enhancement of environmental perception itself. Based on traditional methods in cultural studies as well as experimental practices like taking reflective walks and aesthetically interventions. Sir Peter Geoffrey Hall (19 March 1932 – 30 July 2014) was an English town planner, urbanist and geographer. He was the Bartlett Professor of Planning and Regeneration at The Bartlett, University College London and president of both the Town and Country Planning Association and the Regional Studies Association.
