Hellmut Röhnisch
Hellmut Röhnisch (1914 – 1996) was a German-born Swedish universal language activist, businessman and athlete. Biography Röhnisch went to school in Kassel, Germany. He left Germany with a group of countrymen in 1932. Thus escaping being arrested and prosecuted for his engagement in the German trade union movement in a situation where political circumstances were in turmoil. Röhnisch eventually settled in Örebro in Sweden after travelling, mainly by foot, through Poland, the Baltic states and Finland. In 1945, Röhnisch won the first ever Swedish Championship in gymnastics. Röhnisch was engaged as a judge and interpreter for competitions in gymnastics in all World Championships and Olympic Games until 1988 in Seoul. For his contributions Röhnisch was awarded an honorary membership of the International Gymnastics Federation ( FIG). In 1945, Röhnisch set up a company specialized in gymnastics apparatus. Zeitz
Zeitz (; , ) is a town in the Burgenlandkreis district, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is situated on the river White Elster, in the triangle of the federal states Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, and Saxony. History First a Slavic pagan settlement later Christianized, Zeitz was first recorded under the Medieval Latin name ''Cici'' in the Synod of Ravenna in 967. Between 965 and 982, it was the chief fortress of the March of Zeitz. Zeitz was a bishop's residence between 968 and 1028, when it was moved to Naumburg. Beginning at the end of the 13th century, the bishops again resided in their castle at Zeitz. The Herrmannsschacht (built in 1889) is one of the oldest brown coal brickette factories in the world. Swedish Ido Association
Swedish Ido Association was founded in Stockholm 21 April 1911 and was associated with Uniono por la linguo internaciona - ULI. The purpose was to promote the usage of the universal Ido language in Sweden. During the 1930s the Swedish Ido Association was one of the largest associations in Sweden that advocated the usage of a universal language. The association had about 200 exercising and 100 supporting members. The association published periodicals and literature in Ido. Among other periodicals Komuniki (1964–1988) Svensk Världsspråkstidning 1925-59 and Mondo 1912-34 can be mentioned. Due to receding numbers of members, an extra general meeting decided to dissolve the association in Stockholm 2 August 1996. At this meeting the Ido-foundation for Language Research in Memory of Hellmut Röhnisch was created using the assets of the association. (; "The National Encyclopedia" in English), abbreviated NE, is a comprehensive contemporary Swedish-language encyclopedia with several hundred thousand articles. It is available both online and via a printed version. History The project was initiated in 1980 when a government committee suggested that negotiations be initiated with various publishers. A loan from the Government of Sweden of 17 million Swedish krona, which was repaid by December 1990, provided funding. In August 1985, in Höganäs became the publisher responsible for the project. The project specifications were for a modern reference work based on a scientific paradigm incorporating gender and environmental issues. Pre-orders for the work were unprecedented; before the first volume was published in December 1989, 54,000 customers had ordered the encyclopedia. Ido (language)
Ido () is a constructed language derived from a reformed version of Esperanto, and designed similarly with the goal of being a universal second language for people of diverse languages. To function as an effective ''international auxiliary language'', Ido was designed specifically to be grammatically, orthographically, and lexicographically regular (and, above all, easy to learn and use). It is the most successful of the many Esperanto derivatives, known as '' Esperantidoj.'' Ido was created in 1907 due to a desire to reform the perceived flaws of Esperanto, a language that had been created 20 years earlier to facilitate international communication. The name comes from the Esperanto word ', meaning "offspring", since the language is a derivative of Esperanto. After its inception, Ido was endorsed by some of the Esperanto community.
