Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator
The Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator ( was formed by the separation of the Distribution Department of Greece's Public Power Corporation in order to comply with the 2009/72/EC EU Directive relative to the electricity market organization. The mission of this company is to undertake the tasks of the Distribution Network Operator of Greece. It is a 100% subsidiary of PPC, however, it is independent in operation and management, retaining all the independence requirements that are incorporated within the above mentioned legislative framework. Electric power distribution is the final stage in the delivery of electricity. Electricity is carried from the transmission system to individual consumers. Distribution substations connect to the transmission system and lower the transmission voltage to medium voltage ranging between and with the use of transformers. Public Power Corporation
The Public Power Corporation S.A. (, abbreviated PPC, or DEIInfoCuriaCommission of the European Communities v Hellenic Republic Case C-394/02, published 2 June 2005, accessed 5 October 2022) is the largest electric power company in Greece. PPC acquired Enel Romania from the Italian Enel group for €1.24 billion on October 25, 2023. History PPC was founded by the Greek government in 1950. Energy in Greece is dominated by fossil gas and oil. Electricity generation is dominated by the one third state owned Public Power Corporation (known mostly by its acronym ΔΕΗ, or in English DEI). In 2009 DEI supplied for 85.6% of all electric energy demand in Greece, while the number fell to 77.3% in 2010. Almost half (48%) of DEI's power output in 2010 was generated using lignite. 12% of Greece's electricity comes from hydroelectric power plants and another 20% from natural gas.
