Heljä Liukko-Sundström
Heljä Tuulia Mirjam Liukko-Sundström (June 15, 1938 – May 21, 2024) was a prolific Finnish ceramicist, potter, artist and children's writer. She was recognized as one of Finland's leading ceramic artists of the 20th century. Her work was noted for highlighting playfulness and joy, with many designs featuring rabbits and flowers. Liukko-Sundström's work is considered a hallmark of Scandinavian design. She was recognized for her work with the Arabia company, where she worked for more than 40 years. Biography Liukko-Sundström grew up in Mynämäki in southwest Finland, near Turku, where she was said to be "timid, serious and quiet". She was fascinated by animals and the forests and meadows of her childhood. Her mother was a teacher and her father was an agriculture scientist. Vehmaa (; ) is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Southwest Finland region. Vehmaa is known of their red Granite Balmoral red, as well as being the birthplace of Albin Stenroos who won the gold medal in the marathon at the 1924 Olympics. Marimekko
Marimekko Corporation () is a Finland, Finnish textiles, clothing, and home furnishings company founded by Viljo and Armi Ratia in Helsinki in 1951. Marimekko made important contributions to fashion in the 1960s. It is particularly noted for its brightly colored printed fabrics and simple styles, used both in women's garments and in home furnishings. Two designers in particular, Vuokko Nurmesniemi, with bold stripes, and Maija Isola, with large simple flowered prints such as the ''Unikko'' poppy, created hundreds of distinctive patterns and helped to make Marimekko a household name across the world.
