Helene Overlach
Helene Overlach (19 July 1894 - 7 August 1983) was a German Communist party official and politician. Unusually for a woman at that time, between 1928 and 1933 she served as a member of the German parliament (''"Reichstag"'') in Berlin, representing Electoral District 22 ( Düsseldorf East). During the Hitler years her relatively high political profile before 1933 earned her the close attention of the security services. She survived, despite spending much of the time during those twelve years in prisons and concentration camps: her health was badly affected. Greiz
Greiz () is a town in the state of Thuringia, Germany, and is the capital of the district of Greiz. Greiz is situated in eastern Thuringia, east of state capital Jena, on the river '' White Elster''. Greiz has a large park in its center (Fürstlich Greizer Park) which is classified as an English garden. Andreas Herbst
Andreas Herbst (born Berlin 20 October 1955) is a German historian. His career has been divided between authorship and museum work. He has written extensively on aspects of the German Democratic Republic and since 2001 has worked for the (recently renovated) German Resistance Memorial Center in Berlin. Life and career Herbst was born in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) and was almost 35 by the time (as officially identified) of German reunification. Between 1977 and 1982 he studied Historical Sciences at Berlin's Humboldt University. After obtaining his degree he worked as a research assistant at the Museum for German History (''Museum für Deutsche Geschichte'') in Berlin. Haniver
A Jenny Haniver is the carcass of a ray or a skate that has been modified by hand then dried, resulting in a mummified specimen intended to resemble a fanciful fictional creature, such as a demon or dragon. Name One suggestion for the origin of the term was the French phrase ("youth of Antwerp"). British sailors "cockneyed" this description into the personal name "Jenny Haniver". The Young Communist League of Germany (, abbreviated KJVD) was a political youth organization in Germany. History The KJVD was formed in 1920 from the Free Socialist Youth () of the Communist Party of Germany, A prior youth wing had been formed in October 1918, with support from the Spartacus League (). It was unable to attract new members and its membership peaked in the last years of the Weimar Republic at between 35,000 and 50,000. However, those who did join were commonly children of communist parents that were extremely devoted to the Communist Party.
