Helen Alexandra Lewis (born 30 September 1983) is an English journalist and staff writer at ''The Atlantic''. She is a former deputy editor of the ''New Statesman,'' and has also written for ''The Guardian'' and ''The Sunday Times''. Early life Lewis was born in Worcester, England. She attended St Mary's School, Worcester, until 2001 and completed a Bachelor of Arts with honours in English at St Peter's College, Oxford, in 2004. In 2011, Lewis completed a Master of Arts in English at the Open University. Career After graduating from Oxford, Lewis gained a post-graduate diploma in newspaper journalism from London's City University. Jezebel is a US-based website featuring news and cultural commentary geared towards women. It was launched in 2007 by Gawker Media under the editorship of Anna Holmes as a feminist counterpoint to traditional women's magazines. Trans-exclusionary Radical Feminist
Gender-critical feminism, also known as trans-exclusionary radical feminism or TERFism, is an ideology or movement that opposes what it refers to as "gender ideology". Gender-critical feminists believe that sex is biological, immutable, and binary, and consider the concepts of gender identity and gender self-identification to be inherently oppressive constructs tied to gender roles. They reject transgender and non-binary identities, and view trans women as men and trans men as women. TERF (acronym)
TERF () is an acronym for trans-exclusionary radical feminist. First recorded in 2008, the term TERF was originally used to distinguish transgender-inclusive feminists from a group of radical feminists who reject the position that trans women are women, reject the inclusion of trans women in women's spaces, and oppose transgender rights legislation. Trans-inclusive feminists assert that these ideas and positions are transphobic and discriminatory towards transgender people. The use of the term TERF has since broadened to include reference to people with trans-exclusionary views who are not necessarily involved with radical feminism. Transphobia consists of negative attitudes, feelings, or actions towards transgender or transsexual people, or transness in general. Transphobia can include fear, aversion, hatred, violence or anger towards people who do not conform to social gender roles.
