Heisuke Hironaka
is a Japanese mathematician who was awarded the Fields Medal in 1970 for his contributions to algebraic geometry. Early life and education Hironaka was born on April 9, 1931 in Yamaguchi, Japan. He was inspired to study mathematics after a visiting Hiroshima University mathematics professor gave a lecture at his junior high school. Hironaka applied to the undergraduate program at Hiroshima University, but was unsuccessful. However, the following year, he was accepted into Kyoto University to study physics, entering in 1949 and receiving his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from the university in 1954 and 1956. Hironaka initially studied physics, chemistry, and biology, but his third year as an undergraduate, he chose to move to taking courses in mathematics. Wakako Hironaka
is a Japanese writer and politician. She served four terms in the House of Councillors, the upper house of the national Diet, from 1986 until 2010. Her husband is Heisuke Hironaka, a mathematician. Political career Hironaka was first elected to the House of Councillors from the national proportional representation block at the 1986 election as a member of the Komeito party. She was re-elected to a second term as a national PR member at the 1992 election. Between 1993-1994, she was State Minister, Director-General of the Environment Agency in the Hosokawa Cabinet. Following the breakup of Komeito in 1994, Hironaka was part of the group that formed the New Frontier Party, which itself dissolved in 1997. She contested the Chiba at-large district as an independent at the 1998 election, winning one of the district's two seats. Yasuo Akizuki
Yasuo Akizuki (23 August 1902 – 11 July 1984) was a Japanese mathematician. He was a professor at Kyoto University. Alongside Wolfgang Krull, Oscar Zariski, and Masayoshi Nagata, he is famous for his early work in commutative algebra. In particular, he is most well known in helping to demonstrate Akizuki–Hopkins–Levitzki theorem. Life Yasuo Akizuki was born on 23 August 1902 in Wakayama.
