Hefshuizen
Hefshuizen is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Groningen. Hefshuizen was created in 1979, in the merger of the former municipalities of Uithuizen and Uithuizermeeden. In 1990, Kantens, Usquert, and Warffum were added, and in 1992, the name of the municipality was changed to Eemsmond. Eemsmond
Eemsmond (; ) is a former Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality with a population of 15,864 in the north of the province of Groningen (province), Groningen in the northeast of the Netherlands. On 1 January 2019 it merged with the municipalities of Bedum, De Marne and Winsum to form the new municipality Het Hogeland. History The municipality of Hefshuizen was established on 1 January 1979 by merging the municipalities of Uithuizen and Uithuizermeeden. Uithuizen
Uithuizen () is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Het Hogeland. It had a population of 4,885 in January 2017. The Uithuizen railway station is located on the Sauwerd–Roodeschool railway. History Uithuizen was first mentioned in 1000 as Uthuson (extreme houses). It was established by the inhabitants of as their furthest edge. Around 1200, a dike was built to protect the village. In the mid-19th century, Uithuizen started to grow substantially. Uithuizermeeden
Uithuizermeeden is a village in the Netherlands, with a population of about 3,200 people. It is part of the municipality of Het Hogeland, close to the Wadden Sea The Wadden Sea ( ; ; or ; ; ; ) is an intertidal zone in the southeastern part of the North Sea. Kantens is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Het Hogeland, about 16 km north of the city of Groningen. Warffum
Warffum (Gronings: Waarvum)is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of Groningen (province), Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Het Hogeland. It had a population of around 2,175 in January 2017. History The history of Warffum can be traced back to at least 600 AD, and it has been estimated that the village was founded as far back as the eighth century. In 1893 a Warffum railway station, train station was opened in Warffum, connecting Warffum to Groningen (city), Groningen and Roodeschool. It was a separate municipality until 1990, when it became a part of Hefshuizen, which has been known as Eemsmond since 1 January 1992. In 2004 the Dutch royal family visited Warffum as part of the Koninginnedag (Queensday) celebrations.
