Heeley
Heeley was a cluster of small villages which now form a suburb in the south of the city of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The village has existed at least since 1343, its name deriving from ''Heah Leah'', ''High Lea'' then ''Hely'', meaning a high, woodland clearing. Originally Heeley was divided into three: ''Upper Heeley'' (or ''Heeley Top'') was around the intersection of Myrtle Road and Heeley Green, ''Middle Heeley'' was on the Gleadless Road at Well Road, and ''Lower Heeley'' (or ''Heeley Bottom'') was on the London Road around Artisan View. At the 2011 Census the village formed part of the Gleadless Valley ward of the City of Sheffield. History Heeley Methodist Church was built in 1826. In 1833 Heeley there were 47 householders living in Nether, Middle and Upper Heeley. Heeley Parish was formed in 1846 from part of St Mary's Parish on Bramall Lane. Sheffield Heeley is a constituency in the city of Sheffield that was created in 1950. The seat has been represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament by Louise Haigh of the Labour Party since 2015. Haigh served as Secretary of State for Transport under the government of Keir Starmer until she resigned on 28 November 2024, after it was revealed she had pleaded guilty to fraud in 2013. Meersbrook
Meersbrook () is a neighbourhood of the Heeley area in the south-west of Sheffield, England, 2 miles south of the city centre and bordered by Norton Lees to the south and the Meersbrook allotment site (the largest allotment site in Europe) to the east. Until 1950 it was part of the Sheffield Ecclesall constituency and now forms part of the Sheffield Heeley constituency. The district falls within the Gleadless Valley ward of the city. The name comes from the stream, the Meers Brook, a tributary of the River Sheaf which means 'boundary brook' and along with the River Sheaf was the boundary between Yorkshire and Derbyshire. With the expansion and industrialisation of the City of Sheffield the area immediately south of Heeley Parish which included the fields that made up present day Meersbrook, became part of Sheffield and in turn Yorkshire. London Road is a shopping street in Sheffield, England. It leads south from the city centre near The Moor Quarter, Moorfoot, parallel to Bramall Lane, through Sharrow, Highfield, Sheffield, Highfield, Lowfield and Heeley, before becoming Chesterfield Road (Sheffield), Chesterfield Road in Meersbrook next to The Crown Inn. A61 Road
The A61 is a major trunk road in England connecting Derby and Thirsk in North Yorkshire by way of Alfreton, Clay Cross, Chesterfield, Sheffield, Barnsley, Wakefield, Leeds, Harrogate and Ripon. The road is closely paralleled by the M1 motorway between Derby and Leeds.
