"Heavy" is a song by American post-grunge band Collective Soul. It is the second single from their fourth album '' Dosage''. It was the last of the band's seven number ones on Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks, as well as their most successful, staying atop the chart for 15 weeks. It was also their last song to chart on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, peaking at number 73. It was featured as one of the two licensed songs in ''NHL 2001''. Collective Soul
Collective Soul is an American rock band originally from Stockbridge, Georgia. Now based in Atlanta, the group consists of the brothers Ed (lead vocalist) and Dean Roland (rhythm guitarist), Will Turpin (bassist), Johnny Rabb (drummer), and Jesse Triplett (lead guitarist). Formed in 1992, the original lineup consisted of the Roland brothers, bassist David Neal, guitarist Ross Childress, and drummer Shane Evans. Collective Soul released their '' Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid'' album on the independent label Rising Storm Records in 1993. The band went from obscurity to popularity that year after the album's lead single " Shine" received regional radio play. Around the same time, Turpin replaced Neal on bass. William Ross Turpin (born February 8, 1971) is an American musician. He is best known for being the bassist of the rock band Collective Soul. He is also a solo artist, and tours with his backing band, the Way. His debut EP, ''The Lighthouse'', was released in 2011. He owns an indie record label called Gooey Music. Shane Evans (born April 26, 1970) is an American musician. He was the original drummer for the rock band Collective Soul. Life and career Early life and career beginnings Evans was raised in Stockbridge, Georgia. After graduating from Stockbridge High School, he began his career as a professional drummer for the band Marching Two-Step, which included Michele Rhea Caplinger, Ed Roland and Matt Serletic. The band performed local gigs for a few years, but never managed to grow beyond the club scene. Collective Soul Evans performed on half of the tracks featured on ''Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid'', an album consisting of Ed Roland's songwriting demos. He remained in the band for the albums ''Collective Soul'', ''Disciplined Breakdown'', '' Dosage'', ''Blender'', and ''Youth''.
