"Heaven Knows" is a song by American singer-songwriter Luther Vandross, released in September 1993 by Epic and Sony as the second single from his eight studio album, '' Never Let Me Go'' (1993). The song was written by Vandross with Reed Vertelney and produced by Marcus Miller. It peaked in the top 30 on both the US '' Billboard'' Hot R&B Singles and Hot Dance Club Play charts, and also at thirty-three on the ''Billboard'' Hot Adult Contemporary Singles chart. "Heaven Knows" was nominated for Best R&B Song alongside " Little Miracles (Happen Every Day)" (also from ''Never Let Me Go'') at the 36th Annual Grammy Awards in March 1994, losing to " That's the Way Love Goes" by Janet Jackson. Luther Ronzoni Vandross Jr. (April 20, 1951 – July 1, 2005) was an American Soul music, soul and Contemporary R&B, R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer. Over his career, he achieved eleven consecutive RIAA certification, RIAA-certified platinum albums and sold over 40 million records worldwide. Known as the "Velvet Voice," Vandross was recognized by ''Rolling Stone'' as one of the 200 greatest singers of all time (2023) and was named one of the greatest R&B artists by ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard''. The European Dance Radio Chart (also known as European Dance Radio Top 25) was a weekly chart compiled by pan-European magazine ''Music & Media''. After dance music had played a more dominant role on the magazine's Eurochart Hot 100 in the beginning of the 1990s, the new chart was launched on 28 September 1991. Based on a weighted-scoring system, it was compiled on the basis of playlists of European stations programming various styles of dance music, including Eurodance, hip hop/rap, R&B and swingbeat, for the 15-30 year-olds, fulltime or during specific dayparts. James Hamilton (25 December 1942 – 17 June 1996) was a British DJ and dance music columnist for ''Record Mirror'', and later for ''Music Week'', where he worked until his death in 1996. He is recognised as a pioneering advocate of disco mixing in the UK and the addition of beats per minute (bpm) calculations to record reviews. Hamilton started as a DJ in his early 20s, playing rhythm & blues in nightclubs in London. He then headed to New York to work for Seltaeb, the US company who had acquired the merchandising rights for the Beatles, becoming a talent scout for their newly formed music division. After returning to the UK, he adopted the DJ name Doctor Soul, and also compiled an album with this title for Sue Records.
