Heaven were a British jazz-influenced rock band from Portsmouth who appeared at the Isle of Wight Festivals in 1969 and 1970, when managed by festival compere Rikki Farr. Heaven (Australian Band)
Heaven was an Australian heavy metal band from Sydney, Australia, that formed in 1980. The band recorded three albums and toured throughout the United States during the 1980s. The group's original style was similar to that of AC/DC but in later years went in a more commercial heavy metal direction along the lines of Judas Priest. History The band was originally formed in Adelaide under the name Fat Lip, which featured Scottish-born Allan Fryer, bassist Laurie Marlow, and drummer Joe Turtur. Soon after the band moved to Sydney, AC/DC singer Bon Scott died in London and some unsubstantiated reports suggested that band was considering Fryer as a replacement. Fryer left Fat Lip and returned to Adelaide but he was never called upon to audition. Angela Johnson (born June 18, 1961) is an American writer of children's books and poetry, with over 40 books to her credit since beginning her writing career in 1989. Her children's picture books are simple yet poetic stories about African-American families, friendships, and common childhood experiences such as moving. Her books for older children revolve around similar themes but also explore deeper issues such as teen pregnancy and divorce. is a 2009 novel by Mieko Kawakami. Its English translation, released in 2021 and published by Europa Editions, had Sam Bett and David Boyd as the translators. This is the second book by Kawakami to be translated into English. The title refers to a painting in the story which one of the characters, a girl named Kojima, gave a new name. Background Kawakami, on her personal website, cited ''Thus Spoke Zarathustra'' as having given her ideas for writing this book. Content The story is set in Japan in 1991. The narrator is a 14-year-old boy who has a right eye that aims in a different direction from his left eye, and who is bullied by other male students. Other characters refer to him as "Eyes" (In Japanese ロンパリ, ''Ronpari'', a reference to one eye looking at London and the other at Paris). ''Heaven'' is the first book in the Casteel series by author V. C. Andrews and was followed by Dark Angel, Fallen Hearts, Gates of Paradise, and Web of Dreams. It is also the first name of the main character. It was first published on November 1, 1985, and is one of Andrews' most popular works. Plot In 1961 a ten-year-old Heaven Leigh Casteel is woken by her Granny and taken to the grave of Leigh 'Angel' Casteel. Granny tells Heaven that Leigh is her biological mother, that she came from a rich Boston family and she died giving birth to Heaven when she was only fourteen years old. Granny then gives Heaven a doll that strongly resembles her apart from its light blonde hair. She tells Heaven the doll is an exact replica of Leigh and that the doll will lead Heaven to her mother's family, changing the course of Heaven's life.
