Louise Lester
Louise Lester (August 8, 1867 – November 18, 1952) was an American silent film actress. She was the first female star of Western films. Biography Lester was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on August 8, 1867. In 1884, Lester headed the Louise Lester Opera Company. Lester made her debut in movies as a member of the Flying A Company in Santa Barbara, California after a career on stage. She starred in over 150 films before her retirement in 1935. Lester is most famous for starring as Calamity Anne in a series of films based around the character. She also starred with William Garwood in films such as ''The Oath of Pierre''. Her married name was Louise Lester Beal. She was the widow of Frank Beal, a film director. She was also married to actor Jack Richardson. Vivian Rich
Vivian Rich (May 26, 1893 – November 17, 1957) was an American silent film actress. Career Rich was born in Philadelphia and spent her early years there. Later the family moved to Boston and she completed her education at the Boston Latin High School. From high school she went to the stage and played in musical comedy before joining the American film company. She lived with her mother in Santa Barbara, California. She was signed by the Centaur Film Company#Nestor Studios Hollywood, Nestor Film Company in 1912 and starred in almost 200 films. Rich retired from films in 1931. Jack Richardson (actor)
Jack Howard Richardson (November 18, 1870 – June 12, 1960) was an American actor. Background Born in New York City, he was signed to a contract in silent films in 1911 by the American Company, working there for several years. Richardson appeared in more than 560 films before his death in Santa Barbara, California. In 1911, Richardson travelled with the American Company to film westerns under the company's Flying A banner. Richardson was among a troupe of actors who were based at La Mesa, California, La Mesa who would produce an average of two western films a week. There, Richardson was regularly as a "heavy" or in villain roles. Flying A left La Mesa in 1912, but Richardson would continue to be cast as a villain in cowboy roles, such as "Scarface Jordan", in the 1925 feature Ridin' Wild (1925 film), Ridin' Wild. The American Film Manufacturing Company, also known as Flying “A” Studios, was an American film, motion picture production company. In 1915, the formal name was changed to the American Film Company. History The American Film Manufacturing Company was founded in Chicago in the fall of 1910 by Samuel S. Hutchinson, John R. Freuler, Charles J. Hite and Harry Aitken, four Midwestern businessmen who joined forces and capital to create the company. Three shooting companies were created. Two would work at the studio or surrounding locales of Chicago, while a third unit was sent out to concentrate on westerns. This western unit would move through the southwest with stops in New Mexico, Arizona and finally California. California was chosen as the unit's final destination for its sunny weather, and to avoid the constraints of the "Edison Trust" (i.e., The Motion Picture Patents Company or MPPC) operating in Chicago and New York City, New York.
