Head Of David
Head of David were a British heavy metal band that featured vocalist Stephen R. Burroughs and ex-Napalm Death member Justin Broadrick (later of Godflesh and Jesu). The band's sound paved way for various music genres, including industrial metal, grindcore and noise rock. The band were influenced by Suicide and covered the song " Rocket USA" on their first EP. Andrea 'Ental described them in Spin as such: 'they re-create the feeling that music cannot get any more abrasive without descending into pure noise'. Suicide (band)
Suicide was an American musical duo composed of vocalist Alan Vega and instrumentalist Martin Rev, intermittently active between 1970 and 2016. The group's pioneering music used minimalist electronic instrumentation, including synthesizers and primitive drum machines, and their early performances were confrontational and often ended in violence. They were among the first acts to use the phrase " punk music" in an advertisement for a concert in 1970—during their very brief stint as a three-piece including Paul Liebegott. Though never widely popular among the general public, Suicide has been recognized as among the most influential acts of its era. Elektra Records (or Elektra Entertainment) is an American record label owned by Warner Music Group, founded in 1950 by Jac Holzman and Paul Rickolt. It played an important role in the development of contemporary folk and rock music between the 1950s and 1970s. In 2004, it was consolidated into WMG's Atlantic Records Group. After five years of dormancy, the label was revived as an imprint of Atlantic in 2009. ''Seed State'' is the third and final album by British experimental metal band Head of David, released in 1991. Produced by Paul Kendall, the album was recorded after two of the band members, the bassist Dave Cochrane and the drummer Justin Broadrick, departed to join their respective projects, God and Godflesh. Cochrane was replaced by Bipin Kumar and Broadrick was substituted by a drum machine. The band embarked an accompanying North American tour following the release of the album. Critical reception AllMusic critic Wilson Neate wrote that "the band rarely strays from the same path, laying down rigid, thumping drum programs and heavy, propulsive basslines as a foundation for abrasive guitars and harsh vocals." Neate also thought that "much of this material sounds slightly anachronistic," due to "the omnipresent drum machine." John Peel
John Robert Parker Ravenscroft (30 August 1939 – 25 October 2004), better known as John Peel, was an English radio presenter and journalist. He was the longest-serving of the original disc jockeys on BBC Radio 1, broadcasting regularly from 1967 until his death in 2004. Peel was one of the first broadcasters to play psychedelic rock and progressive rock records on British radio. He is widely acknowledged for promoting artists of many genres, including pop, dub reggae, punk rock and post-punk, electronic music and dance music, indie rock, extreme metal and British hip hop.
