Hazelwood, Victoria
Hazelwood is an area of Gippsland at the foot of the Strzelecki Ranges in Victoria, Australia. In the beginning the area acted as a service centre for the Hazelwood Power Station. Following the death of Sir Winston Churchill the town centre was renamed to Churchill, Victoria, Churchill, however many of the surrounding areas continue to carry the name Hazelwood. Hazelwood is a historic house in Green Bay, Wisconsin. History Morgan Lewis Martin had the house built for himself and his new wife, Elizabeth, in what was then known as Fort Howard in 1837. A cousin of noted politician James Duane Doty, Martin had previously been a territorial legislator of the Michigan Territory. In the years soon after his marriage, Martin became a member of the legislature of the Wisconsin Territory and would serve as a Congressional Delegate to the United States House of Representatives representing the territory. Martin was a key player in the drafting of the Constitution of Wisconsin and Wisconsin was admitted as a state in 1848. Much of Martin's work on the document was done at Hazelwood. He would eventually serve in the Wisconsin State Assembly, the Wisconsin State Senate and as a Brown County, Wisconsin judge. Hazelwood is a neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the United States. It is represented on Pittsburgh City Council by Barb Warwick. It is bordered by Greenfield and Oakland on the north, Squirrel Hill and Glen Hazel on the east, and the Monongahela River on the south and west. The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire houses 13 Engine and 13 Truck in Hazelwood. Early history In 1758 a large tract of woodland was purchased for $10,000 under the Stanwix Treaty made with the Native-Americans. This area would include Hazelwood and Greenfield of the 15th ward. Hazelwood takes its name from the hazelnut trees which once flourished along the Monongahela river. The first settlers were of Scottish descent and settled what was known as Scotch Bottom. Hazelwood is a historic home located outside Upper Marlboro, Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The home is a large asymmetrical frame dwelling, built in three discrete sections over a long period of time. They are: a low gambrel-roofed section dating from the 18th century, about 1770; a gable-roofed Federal-style dwelling dating from the very early 19th century; and a tall gable-front Italianate-style central section constructed about 1860. The house stands on high ground west of and overlooking the site of historic Queen Anne town on the Patuxent River. Also on the property are several domestic and agricultural outbuildings, and the reputed sites of two cemeteries.
