Hazel Hannan
Hazel Hannan, former Member of the House of Keys (MHK), was previously the Deputy Speaker of the House of Keys and an Education Minister and then Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry in the Isle of Man Government. She was elected in 1986 as an independent MHK for Peel, after a failed attempt 5 years earlier standing for Mec Vannin. She is the President of Peel AFC. The House of Keys () is the directly elected lower house of Tynwald, the parliament of the Isle of Man, the other branch being the Legislative Council. History The oldest known reference to the name is in a document of 1417, written in Latin by an English scholar, which refers to (the 'Keys of Mann') and (the 'Keys of Law'). There is a dispute, however, over the origin of the name. The word ''keys'' is thought by some to be an English corruption of a form of the Norse verb ('to choose'). However, a more likely explanation is that it is a mishearing of the Manx-language term for 'four and twenty': , the House having always had 24 members. Tim Crookall is a Member of the House of Keys (the lower house of Tynwald, the Isle of Man parliament) for Glenfaba & Peel, elected in the 2021 Manx general election. He was formerly Member of the House of Keys for Peel from 2006 to 2015 (succeeding Hazel Hannan), and Minister for Education and Children from 2012 to 2016. The Speaker of the House of Keys () is the principal officer of the House of Keys, the lower house of the Isle of Man legislature. The Speaker is elected from the membership of the House at its first sitting after an election. He is responsible for controlling the procedure of the House and for the authoritative interpretation of its standing orders. He sets the business of the House and authorises the order of business of the House for each sitting. The Speaker uses the letters SHK after his name. The Speaker is not entitled to speak in debates in the House, but is entitled to vote. If a vote is tied, convention dictates that he votes to continue debate or retain the status quo. David Moore (Manx)
Dr David Moore is a Manx politician and former Chairman of the Finance Board, the forerunner to the present Treasury Minister. He was Member of the House of Keys for Peel from 1978 until his retirement in 1986. In 1985, he was appointed the last Chairman of the Finance Board. In 2007 he stood for election to the Legislative Council in the 5th round of voting against Laxey Commissioner David Owens and stood unopposed in the 6th round of voting but failed to be elected by one vote.
