''The Hawkesbury Herald'' was a weekly English language newspaper published in Windsor, New South Wales, Australia for the Hawkesbury River community. History The first issue of ''The Hawkesbury Herald'' was published on 24 April 1902 by William Henry Pinkstone and Frederick William Collison. Pinkstone and Collison published the newspaper until 1940. The newspaper continued to be published after 1940 until 1945 when it was merged into the ''Windsor and Richmond Gazette''. The ''Windsor and Richmond Gazette'' is now published as the ''Hawkesbury Gazette''. The newspaper was circulated in townships along the Hawkesbury River including Windsor, Richmond, Castlereagh and Marsden Park. Digitisation The newspaper was digitised as part of the Australian Newspapers Digitisation Program of the National Library of Australia. The Hawkesbury River, or Hawkesbury-Nepean River (Dharug language, Dharug: Dyarubbin) is a river located northwest of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The Hawkesbury River and its associated main tributary, the Nepean River, almost encircle the metropolitan region of Sydney. The river between Wisemans Ferry and the Pacific Ocean marks the boundary of Sydney, Greater Metropolitan Sydney in the south and the Central Coast (New South Wales), Central Coast region to the north. ''Windsor and Richmond Gazette'', later published as the ''Hawkesbury Gazette'', was a weekly English language compact format newspaper published in Windsor, New South Wales, Australia. History First published on 11 July 1888 by John Charles Lucas Fitzpatrick. The ''Windsor and Richmond Gazette'' was published from 1888-1983. On 4 July 1945 the Hawkesbury Herald was incorporated as part of the Windsor and Richmond Gazette. The Herald reported its amalgamation with other district newspapers saying that the newspaper would be "purchased by Hawkesbury Consolidated Press to be incorporated in the ''Windsor and Richmond Gazette'', which paper, with the ''Hawkesbury Courier'', will continue to be published from the office of the firm".
