Havering And Redbridge
Havering and Redbridge is a territorial constituency represented on the London Assembly by one Assembly Member (AM). The constituency was created in 2000 at the same time as the London Assembly and has elections every four years. It consists of the combined area of the London Borough of Havering and the London Borough of Redbridge. The current assembly member is Keith Prince of the Conservative Party who was first elected in 2016. Constituency profile Created in 2000, Havering and Redbridge has elected only Conservative AMs to date. The current AM is Keith Prince, first elected in 2016. The Conservative win upon its creation in 2000 was somewhat unexpected, as at that point, the vast majority of the area it covers (excluding two Redbridge wards that fall under the Chingford and Woodford Green parliamentary seat) was represented by Labour MPs. Shaun Bailey (AM)
Shaun Sharif Bailey, Baron Bailey of Paddington (born 30 May 1971) is a British politician and former journalist. A member of the Conservative Party, Bailey has been a member of the London Assembly since 2016 and the House of Lords since July 2023. Born in North Kensington to a British Jamaican family, Bailey earned a degree in computer-aided engineering from London South Bank University. In 2006, he co-founded a charity called MyGeneration; it ceased operations in 2012 due to financial problems. Bailey was a researcher for the Centre for Policy Studies and wrote several articles in the British press. He was appointed a special adviser on youth and crime to Prime Minister David Cameron from 2010 to 2013. He also stood unsuccessfully to be elected to the House of Commons as the Conservative candidate for Hammersmith in 2010 and Lewisham West and Penge in 2017. 2021 London Mayoral Election
The 2021 London mayoral election was held on 6 May 2021 to elect the mayor of London. It was held simultaneously with 2021 London Assembly election, elections for the London Assembly, 2021 United Kingdom local elections, other local elections across England and Wales, and Devolution in the United Kingdom, devolved elections in 2021 Scottish Parliament election, Scotland and 2021 Senedd election, Wales. 2012 London Mayoral Election
The 2012 London mayoral election was an election held on Thursday 3 May 2012, to elect the Mayor of London. It was held on the same day as the London Assembly election, and used a supplementary vote system. Incumbent Tory mayor and future Prime Minister Boris Johnson won re-election to a second term as Mayor. Ken Livingstone, who had been Mayor between 2000 and 2008, was seeking a third, non-consecutive term as the Labour candidate. No other candidates received 5% of the vote (the threshold for retaining their deposit). As of the 2024 London mayoral election, this was the last time that London voted for a Conservative Party Mayor, and remains the last time to date that the Conservatives have won any London-wide election.
