''Haveeru Daily'' () was the longest serving daily newspaper in the Maldives, established on 1 January 1979. Haveeru Online is owned by Haveeru Media Group – a company registered under the founder, Mohamed Zahir Hussain's three children – Lubna Zahir Hussain, Leena Zahir Hussain and Vail Zahir Hussain. Name The name ''Haveeru'' symbolises the onset of the cool evening time after the heat of the day, which is also the time when the newspaper is brought out. In Dhivehi literature, "haveeru kurun" means the get-together of poets and writers for literary exchanges. Thus, it was decided that the newspaper's name should also symbolise news, information and literary learning. Mohamed Zahir Hussain, () is a Maldivian politician and former teacher who is currently the chancellor of the Islamic University of Maldives. Education Zahir studied at Al-Azhar University in 1971, and in 2001, received a PhD in Malaysia in 2001. Career After coming back to Maldives from studying at Al-Azhar University, Zahir became an Islam teacher at Aminiya School. Later, president Ibrahim Nasir appointed Zahir as a lawyer in the Ministry of Education. During the presidency of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Zahir was appointed as the Minister of Education on 23 July 1979. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom ( ; born Abdulla Maumoon Khairi; 29 December 1937) is a Maldivian politician, statesman, diplomat and scholar who served as the 3rd president of the Maldives from 1978 to 2008. He previously served as the Minister of Transport (Maldives), Minister of Transport from 1977 to 1978, and as the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations from 1976 to 1977. The High Court of the Maldives () is the high court of the Republic of Maldives. History On 5 October 1980, President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom established a court in every island of the Maldives with the aim of increasing trust and established the High Court. Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom (; born 21 May 1959) is a Maldivian politician who served as president of the Maldives from 2013 to 2018. Yameen was elected president in the 2013 presidential election as the candidate of the Progressive Party (PPM), defeating Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leader and former president Mohamed Nasheed in the second round of the re-run, after the initial election was annulled. The Supreme Court of the Maldives () is the Supreme court, highest court of the Maldives. History The Supreme Court was established on 18 September 2008 under Article 282 of the Constitution of the Maldives. Feydhoo (Seenu Atoll)
Feydhoo ( Dhivehi: ފޭދޫ) is one of the inhabited islands of the Addu Atoll (formerly known as Seenu Atoll). The people of Feydhoo are former residents of Gan. Gan was a very fertile island with its coconut palms, breadfruit trees, yam, binbi and numerous other types of trees flourishing. Even during the Second World War, the people of Gan were economically self-sufficient.
