Hathersage Railway Station
Hathersage railway station serves the village of Hathersage in the Derbyshire Peak District, in England. History The station was opened on 25 June 1894 when the Midland Railway opened the line between and (now the Hope Valley Line) for passengers, the line had opened for freight on 6 November 1893. The original buildings were of timber and have disappeared, with the platforms being rebuilt in masonry. The villagers' initial reaction to proposals to build the railway may have been unenthusiastic. They had already had an unfavourable experience of the 'iron horse' in the form of a traction engine in 1882, which, drawing two heavy carts, had made the roads almost impassable, killing a boy and overturning a mail cart. In addition, a private carriage collided with it, killing one of the occupants. Hathersage ( ) is a village and civil parish in the Peak District in Derbyshire, England. It lies slightly to the north of the River Derwent, approximately south-west of Sheffield. Toponymy The origin of its name is disputed, although it is generally accepted that the second half derives from the Old English word ''ecg'' meaning "edge". In 1086, it was recorded in the Domesday Book as ''Hereseige'' and, around 1220, as ''Hauersegg''. History Pre-history Mesolithic microliths have been found below Stanage Edge, indicating ancient occupation of the area. In the Outseats area, there is evidence of Bronze Age field system, settlement and burial cairn at Dennis Knoll. Liverpool Lime Street Railway Station
Liverpool Lime Street is a terminus railway station and the main station serving the city centre of Liverpool. Opened in August 1836, it is the oldest still-operating grand terminus mainline station in the world. London Midland Region Of British Railways
The London Midland Region (LMR) was one of the six regions created on the formation of the nationalised British Railways (BR), and initially consisted of ex-London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) lines in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
