Harriette Pilbeam (born 4 May 1993), known professionally as Hatchie, is an Australian singer-songwriter and musician. She has released an EP, ''Sugar & Spice'' (2018) and two studio albums: '' Keepsake'' (2019) and '' Giving the World Away'' (2022). History Harriette Pilbeam was born on 4 May 1993 in Brisbane. She started singing as a child, later learning guitar and bass in her teen years, as well as piano and clarinet later on. She studied entertainment, music, and management in college before pursuing live music as a creative outlet. She is the bassist and vocalist of the indie rock band Babaganouj, as well as a former member of the band Go Violets, which disbanded in 2014. ''Sugar & Spice'' is the debut extended play (EP) by Australian singer-songwriter Hatchie, released on 25 May 2018 through Double Double Whammy, Ivy League, and Heavenly Recordings. All five songs from the EP were released as singles and were accompanied by music videos. Background and release Before debuting her solo career, Hatchie played bass and sung backing vocals in the bands Babaganouj and Go Violets. Aspiring to pursue something with a different production, songwriting and vocal style, she wrote "Try" in early 2015 and recorded it in 2016. The song was eventually uploaded on 4 May 2017 to Triple J Unearthed and hit the top of its charts and garnered her significant attention in Australia. ''Keepsake'' is the debut studio album by Australian musician Hatchie, released on 21 June 2019, through Double Double Whammy, Ivy League and Heavenly Recordings. The album was preceded by the singles "Without a Blush", "Stay With Me", and "Obsessed". Release and promotion On 26 February 2019, Hatchie announced the release of her debut studio album ''Keepsake'' alongside a pre-order. ''Giving the World Away'' is the second studio album by Australian dream pop musician Hatchie. It was released on 22 April 2022 through Secretly Canadian. Background and recording After the release of her 2019 debut album '' Keepsake'', Hatchie began working on a second album in February 2020 while in Los Angeles. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, she was forced to return to Australia at the end of the month. She worked in retail while recording music with her partner Joe Agius at a house in Brisbane. The songwriting process was more collaborative than on ''Keepsake'', as Hatchie was open to working with more co-writers and adding to songs started by or with Agius. After production and mixing was done remotely in Denver by Jorge Elbrecht, the album was completed in 2021. Joe Agius
Joseph James Agius (born 10 March 1992) is an Australian musician, singer and performer. He is the lead singer & guitarist of Brisbane-based rock band, The Creases, which he founded in 2013, and solo project RINSE, which he began officially releasing music through in 2020. Agius has also directed music videos for his partner, Harriette Pilbeam's solo project, Hatchie. As a member of Hatchie's backing band, Agius has also co-written, co-produced and performed material with her since 2018. Babaganoüj are an Australian indie rock band formed in 2011 in Brisbane by Charles Sale (guitar, vocals), Harriette Pillbeam (bass guitar, vocals), and Peter McDowell (drums). In 2011 after the dissolution of Sale's former band Yves Klein Blue in 2010, Sale released under the band's name an EP for free of old demos he recorded before the band was formed. In 2012, Jack Glesson joined the band as the new drummer, replacing McDowell. Following the release of their debut EP, ''Sife Lucks'' (2013), Ruby McGregor joined as the fourth member as the rhythm guitarist. Double Double Whammy is an independent record label founded by Dave Benton and Mike Caridi in October 2011 whilst studying at SUNY Purchase, a liberal arts college in New York state. History Double Double Whammy was founded by Dave Benton and Mike Caridi in October 2011. The pair started releasing tapes for their own band LVL UP, and local bands at SUNY Purchase, the college they attended in New York state. They considered the label inspired by other indie rock labels such as Merge and K. The Sundays
The Sundays were an English alternative rock band, formed in the late 1980s, which released three albums throughout the 1990s. The band's beginnings came with the meeting of singer Harriet Wheeler and guitarist David Gavurin while attending Bristol University. Wheeler had played gigs with Cruel Shoes, an early incarnation of the band Jim Jiminee. The duo soon augmented the band with bassist Paul Brindley and drummer Patrick Hannan.
