Hassan Musa Khan
Muhammad Hassan Musa Khan (30 May 1863 – 1939), also known as Mohamed Hasan Musakhan, Hasan Musakhan, or Hassan Musakhan, was one of the early so-called Afghan (Australia), "Afghan" cameleers in Australia. Born in Karachi, a member of the Tareen, Tarin tribe of Pashtuns. he was a nephew of Khan Bahadur Moradkhan, the first South Asian supplier of dromedary, camels to Australia. Khan was the first Ahmadiyya in Australia, Ahmadiyya Muslim in Australia, and was notable for being appointed as an arbitrator in a complex 1899 court case, involving camel importation to Western Australia. After winning a Mansfield Scholarship at school, Khan won a Frank Souter Scholarship at the University of Bombay (Mumbai) in 1887. He was a schoolteacher and headmaster in Presidencies and provinces of British India, British India from 1889–92, and arrived in Australia in 1896. Afghan cameleers in Australia, also known as "Afghans" () or "Ghans" (), were camel train, camel drivers who worked in Outback Australia from the 1860s to the 1930s. Small groups of cameleers were shipped in and out of Australia at three-year intervals, to service the Australian inland pastoral industry by carting goods and transporting wool bales by camel trains. They were commonly referred to as "Afghans", even though the majority of them originated from the far western parts of British India, primarily the North-West Frontier Province and Balochistan (now Pakistan), which was inhabited by ethnic Pashtuns (historically known as Afghans (ethnonym), Afghans) and Balochs. Mohamet Allum ( – 21 March 1964), also known as Muhammad Alam Khan or Mahomad Allum and nicknamed "The Wonder Man", was an Afghan herbalist based in Adelaide, South Australia. He arrived as one of the Afghan cameleers brought into Australia to work on the camel trains which were being used to explore the interior of the continent in the late 19th century, and worked around the country before settling in Adelaide in 1899. Early life Allum was a Pashtun born in Kandahar, Afghanistan, around 1858. The J S Battye Library (more properly known as the J. S. Battye Library of West Australian History) is an arm of the State Library of Western Australia.
