Johann Peter Hasenclever
Johann Peter Hasenclever (18 May 1810, Remscheid - 16 December 1853, Düsseldorf) was a German genre painter, associated with the Düsseldorfer Malerschule. Life and work His father, also named Johann Peter Hasenclever (1784–1864), was a toolsmith; involved in the local iron trade. In 1825, he went away to school in Ronsdorf and moved into the home of his teacher, Johann Peter Fasbender, who recognized and encouraged his talent for drawing. When he was seventeen, he enrolled at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, under the direction of Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadow, but left after only two years, when Schadow expressed serious doubts about his abilities. He made a second attempt in 1836, studying with Theodor Hildebrandt, who was a great admirer of Dutch Golden Age art. At that time, genre painting was relatively new to Germany, so this had a significant influence on Hasenclever's choice of subject matter. Sophie Hasenclever (6 January 1823 as Sophie von Schadow – 10 May 1892) was a German poet and translator. Life Sophie von Schadow was born in Berlin, the only daughter of Wilhelm von Schadow and his wife Charlotte von Groschke, who came from Courland, Kurland. Her father was a professor at the Prussian Academy of Arts at the time of her birth and became director of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 1826. Sophie von Schadow grew up in the Düsseldorf artistic milieu. In her parents' house at Flinger Steinweg (today Schadowstraße (Düsseldorf), Schadowstraße) 54, the painters of the Düsseldorf school of painting, writers and composers socialised, including Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, who lived in the neighbourhood for several years. Walter Hasenclever
Walter Georg Alfred Hasenclever (8 July 1890 – 22 June 1940) was a German Expressionist poet and playwright. His works were banned when the Nazis came to power and he went into exile in France. There he was imprisoned as a "foreign enemy". He died in Les Milles (Camp des Milles) near Aix-en-Provence. Early life Born in Aachen, Germany, the son of the doctor Carl Georg Hasenclever (1855–1934) and his wife Mathilde Anna (née Reiss; 1869–1953), Walter Hasenclever began studying law at Oxford University in 1908 before changing to the University of Lausanne. From 1909 to 1914 he studied in Leipzig, where he became interested in literature and philosophy. Wilhelm Hasenclever (19 April 1837 – 3 July 1889) was a German politician. He was originally a tanner by trade but later became a journalist and author. However, he is most known for his political work in the predecessors of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). In 1869 and 1870, Hasenclever was a representative for the General German Workers' Association (''Allgemeiner Deutscher Arbeiterverein'', ADAV) in the '' Reichstag'' (parliament) of the North German Confederation. From 1871 on, he was the last president of the ADAV, until it merged with the Social Democratic Workers' Party (''Sozialdemokratische Arbeiterpartei'', SDAP) to form the Socialist Workers' Party of Germany (''Sozialistische Arbeiterpartei Deutschlands'', SAP). From 1874 to 1888 he was again a social democrat representative in the Reichstag of the German Empire that had been formed in 1871: Originally for the ADAV, later for the SAP.
