Harvard University Advanced Leadership Initiative
The Harvard University Advanced Leadership Initiative's goal is to assist experienced leaders who want to solve important social problems in the next stage of their professional lives. A key part of this assistance is providing an opportunity for the selected participants to spend one year in an intensive structured program at Harvard as Advanced Leadership Initiative Fellows. Faculty leadership for this initiative include Harvard Professors Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Rakesh Khurana, Fernando Reimers, Howard Koh, David Gergen, Barry Bloom, William George, Charles Ogletree, and Nitin Nohria. The program was founded in January 2009. Gillian Sorensen
Gillian Sorensen is the former United Nations assistant secretary-general for external relations. Sorensen currently works with groups and organizations committed to peace, justice, development, refugees, and human rights. She recently addressed the National Model United Nations (NMUN) (March 2018), attended by students from over 130 countries. Sorensen currently serves as a member of the board of the International Rescue Committee and as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Gale S. Pollock is a retired United States Army major general who served as the Deputy Surgeon General of the United States Army from October 2006 to March 2007, and also as chief of the Army Nurse Corps. She became acting Surgeon General of the United States Army for nine months following the 20 March 2007 retirement of her predecessor, Kevin C. Kiley, due to fallout from the Walter Reed Army Medical Center neglect scandal. She was the first woman and the first non-physician to hold the position. Chief Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Ogunboye Aremu Obasanjo, , ( ; yo, Olúṣẹ́gun Ọbásanjọ́ ; born 5 March 1937) is a Nigerian political and military leader who served as Nigeria's head of state from 1976 to 1979 and later as its president from 1999 to 2007. Thulisile Nomkhosi "Thuli" Madonsela (born 28 September 1962) is a South African advocate and professor of law, holding a chair in social justice at Stellenbosch University since January 2018. Formerly, she was the General Manager of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, San Francisco Treasurer, and a San Francisco Supervisor.
