Chuck Hartenstein
Charles Oscar Hartenstein (May 26, 1942 – October 2, 2021) was an American professional baseball relief pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for five different teams between the 1966 and 1977 seasons. Listed at , , Hartenstein batted and threw right-handed. He was signed by the Chicago Cubs in 1964 out of the University of Texas at Austin. He played for them until 1968, before joining the Pittsburgh Pirates (1969–70), St. Louis Cardinals (1970), Boston Red Sox (1970) and Toronto Blue Jays (1977). Career A Texas Longhorns star pitcher, Hartenstein led his team to the 1962 and 1963 CWS tournaments. After being signed by Chicago, he led the Texas League with a 2.19 ERA in 1965 while pitching for the Dallas–Fort Worth Spurs. Gustav Hartenstein (18 March 1808 – 2 February 1890) was a German philosopher and author. He was one of the most gifted followers of Johann Friedrich Herbart. Biography He was born at Plauen, Saxony, and educated at the Fürstenschule in Grimma. From 1826 he studied at the University of Leipzig, where his teachers were Karl Gottfried Wilhelm Theile, Heinrich Gottlieb Tzschirner, Christian Wilhelm Niedner, Gottfried Hermann, Wilhelm Traugott Krug and Wilhelm Wachsmuth. In 1833 he obtained his habilitation for philosophy with the thesis ''De Archytae Tarentini fragmentis philosophicis'', and in 1836 was named a full professor at the University of Leipzig. In 1848/49 he served as academic rector. He died in Jena. Isaiah Hartenstein (born May 5, 1998) is a German-American professional basketball player for the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Early life Born in Eugene, Oregon, Hartenstein is the son of Florian, a German basketball coach and former professional basketball player of Afro-German descent. His mother is American. Werner Hartenstein (27 February 1908 – 8 March 1943) was a German naval officer during World War II who commanded the U-boat . He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, the highest award in the military and paramilitary forces of Nazi Germany during World War II. Hartenstein was credited with sinking 19 ships totaling , and with damaging three ships and a destroyer. Born in Plauen, Hartenstein joined the '' Reichsmarine'' (navy of the Weimar Republic) in 1928. After a period of training on surface vessels and service on various torpedo boats during the Spanish Civil War and the first year of World War II, he transferred to the U-boat service in 1941. In September 1942, Hartenstein torpedoed and sank the , then attempted to rescue the survivors. He was forced to abort the rescue when his U-boat came under attack by a B-24 Liberator bomber of the United States Army Air Forces. Early life and education Hartenstine was born on July 27, 1953 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in the Lehigh Valley region of eastern Pennsylvania, where he played high school football at Liberty High School in Bethlehem.
