Harry Cartwright (rugby League)
Harold "Harry" Cartwright (born 12 May 1951) is a former English cricketer who played cricket for Derbyshire between 1971 and 1979. Cartwright was born at Halfway, Derbyshire. He began his career in the Derbyshire Second XI in 1971 and played matches in the John Player League during the 1971 season. His debut first-class game during the 1973 season, a defeat against Warwickshire. Later in the season he played against the travelling New Zealanders, as Derbyshire finished 1973 with a mere two victories. Cartwright continued for a year in the first team, and, despite only playing a single first-team match throughout the 1975 season, was back into the first team in 1976 after an impressive run for the Second XI. He continued in the first team until 1979, scoring a half century in his final County Championship game in 1979. Derbyshire County Cricket Club
Derbyshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Derbyshire. Its limited overs team is called the Derbyshire Falcons in reference to the famous peregrine falcon which nests on the Derby Cathedral (it was previously called the Derbyshire Scorpions until 2005 and the Phantoms until 2010). Founded in 1870, the club held first-class status from its first match in 1871 until 1887. Because of poor performances and lack of fixtures in some seasons, Derbyshire then lost its status for seven seasons until it was invited into the County Championship in 1895. John Player League
The NatWest Pro40 League was a one-day cricket league for first-class cricket counties in England and Wales. It was inaugurated in 1999, but was essentially the old Sunday League retitled to reflect large numbers of matches being played on days other than Sunday. Sunday League The Sunday League was launched in 1969, as the second one-day competition in England and Wales alongside the Gillette Cup (launched in 1963). Sponsored by John Player & Sons, the league was called John Player's County League (1969), the John Player League (1970–83), then the John Player Special League (1984–86). The 17 counties of the time played each other in a league format on Sunday afternoons throughout the season. Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1971 was the centenary cricket season of the English club Derbyshire which had first played in 1871. In the County Championship, they won one match to finish seventeenth in their seventy-seventh season in the Championship. They won seven matches in the John Player League to finish eleventh. They were eliminated in Round 2 of the Gillette Cup. 1971 season Derbyshire played 24 games in the County Championship, one match against Oxford University and one match against the touring Pakistanis. They won one match overall and managed 19 draws in the County Championship. Ian Buxton was in his second season as captain. Ian Hall scored most runs and Philip Russell took most wickets.
