Harry Bastable
Henry Bastable (30 August 1928 – 5 September 2021) was an international motorcycle speedway rider and promoter from England. Career summary Bastable was a novice at the Alan Hunt (speedway rider), Alan Hunt 1949 winter training school when he was signed up by Cradley Heathens, Cradley Heath Heathens. For experience he was loaned to the 3rd Division National League (1932–1964), National League Tamworth Hounds speedway club for the 1950 season, with occasional rides at reserve for 2nd Division Cradley. He returned full-time to Cradley Heath in 1951 and in 1952 was the Heathens' top scorer. Following the closure of speedway at Dudley Wood at the end of 1952 the Cradley team amalgamated with 3rd Division neighbours Wolverhampton Wasps to operate in the National League 2nd Division in 1953, but Harry Bastable never liked the track and didn't show his Cradley form, moving to Birmingham Brummies in August of that year where first division racing proved hard going and he also bec ... Steve Bastable
Stephen Henry Bastable (born 16 September 1956, in Birmingham) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from England. Family His father Harry Bastable, was also a speedway rider. Career Bastable spent the majority of his career with the Cradley Heathens but in three years with the Coventry Bees he scored almost one thousand points. In 1978, he won the British League Pairs Championship with Bruce Penhall, during the 1978 British League season. Three years later he won the 1981 British Speedway Championship and the same season joined Swindon Robins as the team captain. He joined Coventry Bees in 1983. In 1988, he won the National League Pairs, partnering Graham Jones for the Stoke Potters, during the 1988 National League season. At retirement he had earned 18 international caps for the England national speedway team. Individual Speedway World Championship
The World Championship of Speedway is an international competition between the highest-ranked motorcycle speedway riders of the world, run under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). The first official championships were held in 1936. Today, the championship is organised as a series of Speedway Grand Prix events, where points are awarded according to performance in the event and tallied up at the end of each season. However, up to 1994, it was usually run as a single-night event after qualifying rounds during the season, leading up to a final consisting of 20 heats, where points were awarded according to riders' heat placings and then tallied up at the end. Danny Dunton
Dennis Clifford Dunton (13 May 1924 – 2 January 2015) was an English international motorcycle speedway rider and promoter who reached the final of the Speedway World Championship in 1950, achieving 12th place with 5 points. As well as riding, Dunton promoted Peterborough Panthers and co-promoted Oxford Cheetahs, then Oxford Rebels and finally White City Rebels. Biography Dunton was born in Cholesbury, Buckinghamshire. He first took his bike in 1949 to Harringay Racers, and immediately found himself as a team member in his first meeting, a rare if not unique feat. As well as Harringay Racers, Belle Vue Aces, Ipswich Witches, Oxford Cheetahs, and Long Eaton Archers are listed as tracks where he rode as a contracted or loaned rider.
