Harry Babbitt
Harry Babbitt (November 2, 1913 – April 9, 2004) was an American singer and star during the Big Band era. Early career Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Babbitt organized his own band after high school, directing the group in addition to singing and playing saxophone and drums. Later, his work as an announcer and soloist on a radio station in St. Louis caught the attention of bandleader Kay Kyser. Music career Babbitt joined the Kyser band in the winter of 1936. With Kyser he recorded several hits in his rich baritone. On some novelty tunes he adopted a high-pitched falsetto. Babbitt sang such hits as "Three Little Fishies," " (I'd Like to Get You on a) Slow Boat to China" and "Jingle, Jangle, Jingle," but his biggest hit was the cover of Vera Lynn's "The White Cliffs of Dover". He also sang the Spike Jones holiday hit, " All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth" and did the laugh on Kyser's "Woody Woodpecker" song with vocalist Gloria Wood. Big Band
A big band or jazz orchestra is a type of musical ensemble of jazz music that usually consists of ten or more musicians with four sections: saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and a rhythm section. Big bands originated during the early 1910s and dominated jazz in the early 1940s when swing music, swing was most popular. The term "big band" is also used to describe a genre of music, although this was not the only style of music played by big bands. Big bands started as accompaniment for dancing the Lindy Hop. In contrast to the typical jazz emphasis on improvisation, big bands relied on written compositions and arrangements. They gave a greater role to bandleaders, arrangers, and sections of instruments rather than soloists. Carolina Blues
''Carolina Blues'' is a 1944 American comedy film directed by Leigh Jason and written by Joseph Hoffman, Al Martin and Jack Henley. The film stars Kay Kyser, Ann Miller, Victor Moore, Jeff Donnell, Howard Freeman, Georgia Carroll, M.A. Bogue, Harry Babbitt and Sully Mason. The film was released on December 20, 1944, by Columbia Pictures. Plot Kay Kyser (Kay Kyser) and his band get back to North Carolina after a long USO visit. Rather than taking a rest, the band plays at a close by shipyard. There, Kay meets Julie Carver (Ann Miller), a fabulous vocalist whom Kay botches for the shipyard proprietor's little girl. Kay's standard vocalist, Georgia Carroll (Georgia Carroll), needs Julie to fill in for her so she can leave the band and get hitched. Aliso Viejo, California
Aliso Viejo (Spanish for "Old Sycamore") is a city in the San Joaquin Hills of southern Orange County, California. It had a population of 52,176 as of the 2020 census, up from 47,823 as of the 2010 census. It became Orange County's 34th city on July 1, 2001, the only city in Orange County to be incorporated since 2000. Format Calling itself the program "that proves that every woman can be glamorous", ''Glamour Girl'' focused on techniques "designed to make the average woman a glamour girl", providing advice on beauty treatments and wardrobe and similar tips. Each episode featured four women from the studio audience, with each explaining why she wanted to be the Glamour Girl for that day. The winner received a vacation trip, a 24-hour beauty treatment, and other gifts. The total value of gifts presented each day exceeded $4000.
