Harry Angelman
Harry Angelman (13 August 1915 – 8 August 1996) was a British consultant paediatrician who identified and named Angelman syndrome. Biography Angelman was born in Birkenhead in 1915. He qualified in Liverpool in 1938. Angelman was an enthusiast for the language and country of Italy. He observed three unrelated children who showed similar symptoms of severe intellectual disablement, lack of speech, motor disorders, and happy demeanours. He was in two minds as to whether he should publish his findings, but he described seeing a painting whose name seemed to characterise the symptoms he had observed. The painting showed a laughing boy with a puppet and was by the Renaissance artist Giovanni Francesco Caroto. His 1965 paper described what he called "puppet children", inspired by the painting. Birkenhead
Birkenhead (; cy, Penbedw) is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, Merseyside, England; Historic counties of England, historically, it was part of Cheshire until 1974. Angelman Syndrome
Angelman syndrome or Angelman's syndrome (AS) is a genetic disorder that mainly affects the nervous system. Symptoms include a small head and a specific facial appearance, severe intellectual disability, developmental disability, limited to no functional speech, balance and movement problems, seizures, and sleep problems. Children usually have a happy personality and have a particular interest in water. The symptoms generally become noticeable by one year of age. Angelman syndrome is due to a lack of function of part of chromosome 15, typically due to a new mutation rather than one inherited from a person's parents. Most of the time, it is due to a deletion or mutation of the UBE3A gene on that chromosome. Giovanni Francesco Caroto
Giovanni Francesco Caroto (1480 – 1555 or 1558) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance active mainly in his native city of Verona. He initially apprenticed under Liberale da Verona (1445–1526/1529), a conservative painter infused with the style of Mantegna, but after a stay in Milan, Caroto began responding to the other influences from Francesco Bonsignori, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and Giulio Romano; but he never lost a certain individuality and his rich Veronese colour. He trained prominent Mannerist painter Paolo Veronese, who was active mainly in Venice, as well as Antonio Badile. Waterlooville is a market town in the Borough of Havant in Hampshire, England, approximately north northeast of Portsmouth. It is the largest town in the borough.
