Harold Entwistle
Charles Harold Entwistle (September 5, 1865 – April 1, 1944) was an actor on stage and in films, a manager of theaters and touring theater companies, and director from England who migrated to the United States and worked in Hollywood during and after the silent film era. In England he performed for the king and queen. Personal life He married actress Bertha Jane Ross. He was known as a character actor. He was the uncle of Peg Entwistle who died after jumping off the H in the Hollywood Sign. He was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, California.Wilson, Scott. ''Salomy Jane'' is a 1914 silent Western drama film based on Bret Harte's 1898 novella "Salomy Jane's Kiss" and Paul Armstrong's 1907 play based on Harte's story, '' Salomy Jane''. ''Salomy Jane'' was California Motion Picture Corporation's (CMPC) debut feature, as well as the screen debut of stage actress and singer Beatriz Michelena. George E. Middleton saw in his Latina wife a competitor to Mary Pickford as a premier screen star, and each CMPC production was intended to be a Michelena vehicle. Despite being well received by the public, it did not return a profit for the national distributor, Alco Films. It is the only known surviving complete work of silent film era actress Beatriz Michelena and the CMPC. ''The Divorcee'' is a 1919 American society drama starring Ethel Barrymore in her last silent feature film. The film is based on a 1907 play, '' Lady Frederick'' by young Somerset Maugham, which had starred Barrymore on Broadway. The play was already quite dated when this film was made, but the actress was always comfortable with this kind of soap-operish melodramatic material. Herbert Blaché directed, and June Mathis wrote the scenario based on Maugham's play. The film was produced and distributed by the Metro Pictures company. It is based on a play by Dwight Taylor, with a screen play by Samuel Hoffenstein and Franz Schulz. Plot Afraid of marriage, Simone ( Mary Ellis) ends her long term engagement with her fiancé Paul de Lille ( Tullio Carminati). Paul heads to the top of The Eiffel Tower with thoughts of suicide. In another part of Paris, and also afraid of marriage, Mignon ( Ida Lupino) decides to separate from her young lover (James Blakely). ''The Moonstone'' is a 1934 American mystery film directed by Reginald Barker and starring David Manners, Phyllis Barry, Gustav von Seyffertitz and Jameson Thomas. It is an adaptation of the 1868 novel ''The Moonstone'' by Wilkie Collins. The film retains the book's British location, but uses a contemporary 1930s setting rather than the Victorian era of the original. It is one of three film versions of the novel, which include silent versions in 1915 and 1909, although a number of television and radio adaptations have been made. Plot summary As with the book, the film is based around the Herncastle Moonstone, a valuable diamond from India. The plot differs from the original on several particulars, however.
